How to mine copper?

even at level 10 mining with a 30 hardness pickaxe I cannot mine copper
I'm guessing you need at least basalt? but the only basalt stone I found was randomly spawned at my base, and haven't found one since

well, either get higher skill levels or get harder materials, not much else you can do about it

what's the hardness of marble?
I finally managed to mine copper, took me a 46 hardness pickaxe with level 10 mining, so I guess they just add up the hardness and your skill level to determine if you can mine it or not

my pick is 40 and its able to mine the copper rocks.

As someone with mining level 1, even a hardness 52 pickaxe (from some relatively rare rock shards, don't remember which ones) is not enough to mine copper ore included into rock walls.
However, I can mine the small copper rocks that lay on the ground here and there.

i d0nt make my 0wn pick unless i get 2 basalt st0nes because why d0 it bef0re? with a basalt pickaxe i can mine m0st c0pper even at lvl 1

You can increase your mining leavel by equiping two hammers or maces, that might get you above the threshold to be able to mine something. Do check by how much each hammer increase the mining by looking at your stats, some increase it more than others
