For other things in towns that actually have a delivery box, you can just throw the really heavy furniture to move it towards it and then dump it in.
Yes you do need to be a follower to get each reward (pet/items)
If you already got the wind god pet and 2 items you can switch and do the new god.
One of the "fun" things to do is collect god gear and pets and then swapping to your final choice at the end. If you haven't been god of wind very long its also safe to switch for a minor weight penalty. It's highly recommended to get god of earth early, then machine god for the gravity ring and shotgun, and the kitty from god of luck and move on to other gods for an end game build if you play long enough.
Some people like to roleplaying aspect of staying with one god forever though, then you just need to keep in mind that you will have to work on your own weightlifting until its high enough.
edit: if you are a demigod race you get to skip all the penalties completely. it's a good race for people who preplan a lot of god equipment.
