the housing value is roughly the amount of free stuff and money you can get per month I think it only begins to get good at over rank 120
the higher the better which goes a bit into farming since you can increase the wood quality over time then make better and better furniture sales in addition to better housing value
I believe this requires fuel to work with some rumors of walls decreasing enemy spawns
IMO the most effective way to deal with monsters is border patrol and keep your fame low
but I have had weirdly high enemy spawns here and there
PS there is a small shop way to the east that sells extermination scrolls use them if your property gets overwhelmed
