i just went to town . i found a bunch of + charm gear in dungeons so whenever i need to recurit someone i just throw that on, its really bad geat but all combined its arund +40 charm so i have no issues with this

And FYI, no need to find out what he likes at all. Buy some love potion at the drug dealer and get a scroll of incognito. Throw the love potions at him and then use the scroll. Although his name is red-highlighted after the scroll, you should be able to talk to him by middle clicking.

The second throw of the potion will make him aggro which is why you have to use incognito - another way is to keep 2 or 3 engagement rings/necklaces on you and just gift them to him. They give mega affinity bonuses to NPCs
