Attack priority

When you have something equipped via toolbar like a pickaxe and you attack an enemy, is it swinging with the tool or your equipped primary? I'm playing a caster so I can't tell by damage alone.

i play caster, and from what I can see it does chose your main hand item.
my advice is to grab a throw item or a cane in your tool bar and manual attack. dont auto attack, i find that a very fast way to death

If you're not holding any objects in your hands your character will attack with his equiped weapons

I have a cane but I've been trying to level Staff skill so I can kill trash without consuming mana, I just don't want to have to keep scrolling my toolbar selection if I don't have to every time I get jumped while cutting berries or mining. Agreed on the auto attack, disabled the button as soon as I realized I could.

It uses your equipped weapon(s). Tools like pickaxes are not weapons and don't do damage. I regularly keep my pickaxe or axe in my hand for the full duration of doing a dungeon to make it easier to clear/collect things, I'm definitely hitting things with the fully damage of my god weapon.
