Player's Job/Hobby
Do they do anything, or are they ignored?

The player job/hobby is ignored. Jobs/hobbies only work when a character is not assigned to the party, since the player is always in the party you are never getting any benefit from them. My character had a fairly easy hobby to test and confirm this with (the +1 luck hobby).
