How do I get things going?
I've only spent about 4 hours in Elin, I know this game has lots of mechanics and is very complex but I'm conflicted on the game. I'm a huge RPG fan but also love Rimworld due to its complexity and how different mechanics tie in to each other.

I'm having a hard time even making it past floor two in the puppy cave and with making money. I try to do as many board quest that I can but it is not enough on top of the taxes to purchase things from camps/towns.

I've searched on YouTube for a sort of beginners guide, but cannot find any that brushes on the overall starting hours or anything. Does anyone know of any good guides to get me going and kind've understand the game a little bit more? I really want to enjoy this game as it seems it has a lot of good stuff going for it.

Perfect thank you, I don't know how I overlooked this guide as I was on the wiki looking for help with my thief lol
prioritize life skills for the time being. Make a bit of cash. One good way is to forage white and yellow flowers on wilderness tiles and throw them into the box that auto-sells anything inside it every day - altars with pillars surrounding them also spawn on wilderness tiles, and if you pick up and lug the pillars back to camp they sell for a lot early game, around 200 gold each. Try and find equipment in blacksmith shops made from a good material like crystal, which is a good way to get cheap armor with a high PV value early game. Enemies in the puppy cave start to not really be able to hurt you much when you start getting into 20-30+ PV range, which actually isn't too hard to get with a bit of patience but you can start exploring earlier than that provided you play cautiously.

For some particulars about crafting: carpentry bench for weapons and some armor pieces, mason table for making chestplates and other armor pieces. Keep in mind that the product of the crafting of your gear depends on the materials used, so if you're making wooden staves and granite armor the result is pretty underwhelming. Start using better materials like basalt, crystal, iron and so on and you'll notice that the end results start becoming a lot more usable.

After some period of time has passed (I believe a week of in-game time from starting), the woman NPC in your camp (her name is falmia, I think?) will offer you a different gift depending on how you answer a question. My recommendation is to either answer "I want to explore nefia" or "I want to travel". The former answer always grants a ring that has +10 PV, and the latter answer always grants boots that give +5 PV and reduce the time it takes to travel between tiles on the world map. The ring especially is quite good as it will likely take a long time to get to the point you have both your ring slots filled with stuff that's better than +10 PV.
