Save system
How do I recover a save I "restored over"? I've now saved over a save twice with saves from a few hours back, each in the same way. I saved right before doing a restore, then it autosaved soon after, and yet when I tried to restore I only had options from a few hours back instead of a few minutes? I keep losing hours of progress to this and my desire to play is gone.

I even created a backup using the in-game option before doing a restore this time, and yet my backup was supposedly removed as well? When I tried to use my backup, it was just the same save I was already in.

This save system is so ass. For a game writhe with bugs and complete random things that can brick entire games, why do I only get one save and one backup?

Did you save get bricked or something so you had to restore? You have to pick the oath that only lets you have one save. If you wanted to save and load at any point there is an option for that.

I didn't pick an oath, I can save and restore at any point. But there's still only one save slot and one backup slot, and both get overwritten by autosaves.

Both times this happened, yes, something bricked my save - or close enough. Either way it was enough that the autosave screwed me so I had no choice but to restore.

Interesting, that does indeed sound pretty poor for a save/load system. Obviously developer intended for the harder version and I guess the free mode must of been an afterthought. That's very strange.

It seems it is a bug In recent updates, I meet the similar problems. When number of backup are more than the number setting in option, it should deleted the oldest backup. But I don't know why it failed on deleting oldest one folder, so it failed on making the new backup save too, although it display *game saved* in game.

Oh, so it's consistent for others too. Well, hopefully it's fixed soon. I've already since decided to stop playing because it's a waste of time to deal with this, but hopefully it's solved.

If nothing else, there's literally no reason to be limited to a single save slot when you've already, intentionally, chosen to not take the hardcore oath.

Backups work as intended, at least in my experience. I've set the number to 7 backups and been playing for around two whole weeks without any problems. I use them as my manual saves in case something real bad happens.

A few days ago a patch added an option for auto backups, and I disabled it because it obviously would ♥♥♥♥-up my manual save thing, but otherwise it's all good. Maybe auto backups were the source of your problem?

I'm not sure if you meet the same issue with me. But if same, first you could turn up the number of backup slots in game setting, so you could get more than one slots for backup. Once they reach the limit, go save folder and delete the older manually before saving.
The path should be:

C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\LocalLow\Lafrontier\Elin\Save\Backup\world X
You'll find the backup id as folders so you can remove it you wanna drop.

I have no idea why game has issue when remove empty folder (it removed files well) for me, It should work fine for the past few days (or updates), However if I delete by myself in folder then it work fine, although a little annoying to me before fixed.

Well, I may found the cause of failed deleting in my case. I use the google drive to sync my saves between PCs for cloud saving. It may cause some of save path bug in game. After I remove the google drive desktop and restart the PC then readjust the number of backup slots, it seems work fine to create new backup now.
