But you'd definitely want to travel with party members or pets that have the ability to Taunt.
The starter pet Little Girl has it, if you chose that option.
Though I must say, I haven't played a Fairy yet, can you not just increase your END and STR stats to get more HP?
Though, the whole "can't wear any armor that weighs more than 1.0s" would still be a limit to any tankiness you could get easily... maybe.
They're kind of glass cannons. Or just glass, at the beginning.
You can just focus on casting stuff still while the class, it just helps prevent you from being one-tapped from everything by quite a bit.
That, and the bonus crit chance when your pitiful HP pool ends up at 0 as well as being immune to neck hunt is pretty great no matter what route you take.
Dying in one hit means your DPS goes to 0, too.
Mounts have a higher chance of being targeted, especially with taunt, until you get AOE'd or the enemy decides to poke you with an arrow spell anyway, and then you're just sad.
And your +75 DV and evasion skills aren't going to make you dodge any magic attack, either. Magic doesn't miss.
Gaining a massive second health bar that, quite literally increases your survivability to damage by 5x as much, with the benefit of improved critical strike rating when your hp bar is low/empty at the cost of slightly lower potential on magic stats and maybe missing a domain or two is a small price to pay, in my opinion.
Also as a bonus, if the fairy decides to go with the god of elements (which they maybe probably should), you can absorb mana as a sort of psuedo heal at the cost of stamina. Healing was changed recently to not be able to heal more than a % of your max HP, which hurts fairies a lot, as before where weak heals could fully restore their health, now they are only restoring less than half due to the heal cap.
And keep all flying scrolls, rods, spells on hand, it will be invaluable for a fairy as it will allow to reduce heavy materials piece of gear to a weight you're allowed to equip
Early game really isn't as bad as it looks just because you can outspeed everything and they can't hit you back. The base evade goes really hard at how much it keeps you alive. Fairies have a hidden perfect evasion stat that guarantees they always have at least 50 evade chance. Though a stray random hit can absolutely squish you randomly.
Oh, and if you get dimmed.... run. you have 1/4 chance of taking a crit, and it bypass any additional check, so your dodge value becomes irrelevant.
First, you'll want a microphone for a throwing weapon. It's great for crabs and magic resistant enemies. Throwing weapons can be above 1s, as can other ranged weapons, as you don't wear them. Next, get nerve arrow and, eventually, teleport. These three things will allow you to deal with most enemies till you run out of mana. If teleport comes into play, trying to use the mic to conserve mana is often wise, as if you HAVE to teleport, it's probably a silly durable enemy who will probably one-shot you till you have like 10x the starting hp.
Zylon or spirit cloth armor is one of the best options available to fairy without extensive investment, though mica is a decent start, as luck is decent to have on stuff, allowing rerolls of any action with back end dice. If you find scale armor below 1s, also a great option.
One of the most important gear items will be a lantern under 1s. Keep an eye out, as you'd probably find it at one of the quarterly festivals. Likewise, good gloves are great. Sheer mermaids at parties and make gloves for decent ones.
Also, keep in mind magic doesn't miss. You are resistant, but 4hp isn't gonna help at first. The first big threat enemy is gonna likely use magic, for this reason.
