Best way to train Lockpicking?
I hate being on like danger level 5 and the chest is locked, this is ridiculous.

Buy lockpicking training from the trainer in Derphy and buy any gamble chests you find at innkeepers and general traders, you can't fail to open gamble chests and you get XP for each one opened.

check furniture sellers for practice chests. these look like normal chests at first, but they lock themselves after a while. i think they're about 4000 oren

if you need more than one you should probably craft them instead, but you'll need microchips (rare drop from mechs, can be salvaged from traps if you have the feat that does so) and nails.

You can fail, and the gamble chest is destroyed when you do. Not sure if you get exp when you fail, but you don't get much anyway.

Best way is definitely practice chests, if you have like 10 of them you can grind the skill mostly non-stop and get it to around 30 or 40 in a single grind session. If the microchip cost isn't doable for you then you can try your luck in moonportals, some people have a bunch of them lined up for lockpick training. I don't really think it's viable to train the skill any other way though, the exp you get from other sources is nominal.

you only really need one microchip. Once you have crafted your first you can duplicate it with kettle every month for like 500 coins. In two months you can have 4 chests, and you can gain two or more each months depending on kettle's shop level, but honestly you don't really need more than 4

The Fence (npc you sell stolen goods to in the Thieves guild) has a good inventory for investment. If you get the investing skill and negotiation from the merchants guild and invest at least 20 levels into him/her then he has a better chance to sell gamble chests. He can also sell monster balls, and rare scrolls of weapon/armor enchant, and ally scrolls and some other neat stuff, so I found it really worth it.

Once you can get enough microchips, make a practice chest, or multiple if you can.
They don't use lockpicking charges and reset after a few in game hours, so you can just make a daily ritual of practicing while in your base.

Man, just bring your locked chest to a pub or something. Find the informer NPC. They can unlock the chest for you.

Practice chests. For microchips: I just looted two in a fort type nefia from big wrecks.

I haven't code dived but I'm willing to bet that you still get XP for destroyed gamble chests. I just buy any gamble chests I find traders selling and open them and my character is at lockpicking 40 after 2 years of in-game time. I've never needed to touch a practice chest. It does help to also keep your lockpicking at 200 potential via the trainer.
There's a piece of furniture called practice chest. Not sure how you unlock it, but i did, and i built three of them lol
Only downside to it is that it takes microchips and they are hard to find.

If you take scavenger trait you have a chance to get microships from traps think you need a certail level in disarming to get it did not have it from start.

Use the gate (found in Tinker camp vendor for 0 orens) to visit other players' base. Some of them have practice chests. You can use them and even sleep there until you run out of food.
Once I found a base with 10 practice chests which I used to lvl up.
