how do i get a bigger inventory? all i have is a purse and the one the game gives you

You can equip any box as a container on the right side. The packages you get are good for this

additionally, any container placed in your main bag can be opened to add extra slots.

Occasionally you get shipped items, or you can manually ship yourself items with a delivery box, and these come in light cardboard boxes which you can hold in your main inventory and use as additional storage slots. They are very light and hold an extra 20 items. Later you can make pouches and larger bags, and make them out of plastic which is fireproof.

Any container that can be picked up can be placed in your inventory could be used to carry more things on you.
Though many are kind of heavy, those packages you can get through the mail are a nice option to start off expanding your inventory since they're relatively lightweight for their capacity.
You can also make use of the tailoring skill and the loom to make lightweight containers like bags.
Generally, those are the kinds of things you'll be using as storage.
Not like it's always feasible to be carrying around a 96 slot caravan wagon as a storage chest.
... Maybe eventually, though.

Put bags/boxes in your inventory.
Check furniture seller in each city. Sometimes they sell luggage bag that can hold 30 items and only weight 0.6s.
And most importantly, to increase your carrying capacity, don't forget to train "heavy lifting" ability.
