Taxes keep going up indefinitely?
From what I can see on the wiki and in game, your taxes will keep going up every year without a cap. "The Base Tax is increased according to the number of months elapsed".

Can someone help me understand this? Is there a cap that isn't mentioned? and why is this tied to just time elapsed and not value of your lands or something?

It seems to me there a soft cap on when you can no longer play the game, due to taxes pricing you out of playing the game how you want.

I've heard there is a soft cap at 1500, but that's for the base amount of taxes. It will still go up with fame. I am day 250 at 2400 fame, and my taxes are at 4k per month...

I didn't fdiddle with it too much yet, so take it with a grain of salt, but you can reduce the amount by buying tax evasion policy and having citizen with tax evation job or hobbies, leveling up the tax evasion skill of your town. Thoses gives passive reduction, unlike the active policy that works better but cost you 40 karma per month.

The tax evasion policy is a must. So is regularly selling your fame to informers when you see yourself struggling. There's a mod that makes the tax evasion policy scale a bit differently so that the taxes are even more managable.
I THINK making a land 'tax free zone' also does... something. I put it on the Vernis mine since i don't use it.

Make your stuff out of palulu wood and gold for maximum worth.

My monthly tax may seems high to you, but i am actually making 4k in the positive, + the daily tourism income + the random stuff that i throw for shipping.

The tax evasion policy is NOT a must. At all. It's just a waste of gold bars. At level 10 tax evasion you pay like... 7% less or so. Wow, that's like around 100 gold bars wasted. At level 1000 (!).. you pay only ~50% less.

So yeah, tax evasion policy can be ignored.

There's a base of 500 per plot, I heard there was a cap on the yearly increase of like 5k or so. Then you have fame related tax which is different and you can control yourself. Overall it's trivial once you get the hang of the system, with minimal effort and a few extravagant residents you should be earning money from your towns rather than spending any on them.

Not really, for several reasons :
> Most of your taxes comes from fame and You can partially or completely reset your fame to lower the taxes
> You'll find more money all around by having high fame (harder nefias = better loot that sell very well, war quests = 4-8k just for holding out to wave 5, vernis mine, gold from thiefs guild...
> At some point, you become strong enough to take on the guards that comes after you if you decide to not pay, so... yeah.

Tax free zone is to make it so your tourism and business aren't taxed on that plot of land... i.e. without this policy you would make less passive income.

Okej I agree with most of this, but the war quests are basically impossible to do...

depends of your gear mostly. I can do them if the game doesn't decide to throw a T-rex or wivern as a boss...

But you always discover new ways of making money. Just discovered that thoses annoying trucks spawning in Vernis mine are worth 375 coins each... meaning that if you can lift them (and I can with hero spell)... *ka-ching*

Haha, you're a hero for being able to lift those minecarts.
