Easy way to find basic weapons?

Is there an easy way to find purchase specific weapons? Trying to find a short sword to craft a cutting board. When I try crafting a weapon, I always get a spear or club. Checked the blacksmith in mysilia, his stock is very random, and rarely has a weapon. Even when it is a weapon, I haven't seen a sword. Is it purely RNG? Have about 8 hours in, several clears of lvl2 caves/dungeons, not a single sword to be seen....am I missing something?

sounds just unlucky to me, swords are all over, but its just luck

Yep, sounds like bad luck. I did struggle with it too.
Try to do the puppy cave a few times. I think I found mine there first. I made a chest to keep a few of every type. You may need some for quests as well.

It's purely rng unfortunately. You can either mass craft them, run around blacksmiths or raid a dungeon. Best of luck to you.
