puppy for the lost puppy quest died, what now

I rescued the puppy from the cave and got it out of there. When I entered my base there was a punk right there. The puppy attacked the punk and died before I could get there.

Will a new puppy appear in the cave? the quest entry says i saved the puppy and need to deliver it. talking to her doesn't give any options.

They should be immortal before you talk to them in the cave. After you talk to them, they become a pet of yours. Now you can go find a barkeep and resurrect them.

If you recruited the puppy just try talking to the woman I have seen someone else complete the quest after it died on them but it might of been "fixed" since then.

How do you recruit the puppy ?I can't seem to get it to follow me. It just does its own thing. I even gifted it a bunch of bones and I tried to use a leash on it

Just talk to her. Once you tell her to follow you, she's added to your party same as any normal party member.
