Are permadeath runs viable in this game
I've heard that Permadeath runs were a fool's battle in Elona, but I have a hard time engaging in these types of games without that type of risk being a factor, is it viable to survive long-term in Elin?

I don't know if this is always the case.

But i always seem to start with an ability (innate feat) that let's you cheat death once, if your stamina is above 50% (on my oath of eternity character's), it could be on all character's though idk.

Technically twice if your a farmer though, which reduce's stamina cost on the death defiance for some reason.

Edit: You can't die as long as your above 50% of your stamina basically, as far as i know.

It's not because 1 bad rng could lose you hundred of hours!

It depends on how well you know the mechanics of the game. There's a lot of things that can mess you up, kill you or cause long term damage to your character, but there's always a countermeasure, way to avoid or a way to fix those things if you know what you're doing.

If you're brand new I would suggest a run through with no Omen so you can save and reload, and once you have a solid grasp of the mechanics you can roll a hardcore character after. If you don't put yourself in harms way and don't do silly things like drinking from wells you will have an easy time keeping yourself alive.

auto battle protects you from death as long as you have stamina

it's supposed to encourage you to try to fight enemies you've never seen before, though you'll usually still end up dying anyway

Highly not recommended, sometime there is no other option than death. A empowered omega blade/asura spawn right next to the stair/corner, one crit hit, there you go.

considering the Game are just coming out and are in Early Access, i personally wold recommend to just go whit no Permadeath enabled.

remember early access means balance might not be perfect, and random stuff can get you killed easily, like falling down the Stair's when trying to leave a dungeon whit low life after killing the boss...

personally i have the Save Backup active just in case an unknown bug cold cause corruption or something other unforeseen stuff happening after a update or bug's.

It's viable, if you REALLY know what you are doing, but pray do god you don't misclick something and one wrong move early on can easily get you killed in one hit before u can even react to it, and you likely won't be dungeon diving for a long time if you do that cause it only take 1 trap that u didnt have high enough skill level to spot to get you killed. Once you get the ball rolling it should become more forgiving however, problem is getting there.

I recommend either go with save scum enabled or disable manual save only, the game has so much depths in it, if you do permadeath u will likely unable to foresee all the ways that you could die.

Yeah, I'm convinced to do oath of destiny, sadly. I had a pretty good run going until I got crit-nuked by a kobold.

It's a bummer though, I need death to feel more consequential in a game like this, it makes the stakes feel super low.

I understand the thought with perma and the weight of consequence, but unfortunately Elin/Elona's RNG factors just don't play into it very well - it's more designed for players who've already dumped in hundreds of hours and know exactly what they're doing so they can mitigate the heaping piles of RNG thrown at you.

If you're unable to Self Control savescumming, by all means try perma, but go into it fully aware that it's not just going to be crits from kobolds ending your runs.

Elin is extremely grindy at its core - I cannot overstate that fact enough, it takes a LONG time without any EXP modification to get anything done, especially if you're in the camp of not knowing the cheese/gamification bits - and you can very easily lose a tens-or-hundreds hour save to an Evolved suddenly getting aggro, something invisible spamming you with potions, two eyes locking you in with Paralysis as a minotaur is gaining on you.. etc.

If you're a masochist, have at it! Just, yaknow. Be mindful of what you're prepping yourself to lose at any given time.

..That and there are pretty heavy baseline death penalties, so. It's a bit like running a heavily modded game on perma - you're going to F yourself if something bugs out and you have no saves to fall back on.

You can become immune to Paralysis and such effecs, you can see invisibility, so yeah very possible. I dont feel like i can die in my current run and im new to Elona with only 100 hours. But you know maybe lategame something can damage me eventually.
