How to use the bank? whats the point?

I got a kitty bank and have been depositing money into it so I don't lose it, but how do I get it out now? also, does this apply to the bank in the main city as well?

You get it out the same way you got it in. Talk to the NPC, the window opens and then you see your bank inventory.

But for the furniture item like the piggy bank and kitten bank, how does that work? I only have an option to deposit and then the money disappears.

Piggybank is temporary storage and you have to break it by throwing it. At the bank you need to OPEN YOUR PURSE which actually has the orens sitting in it along with any other coins you might have put there. Depositing is not automatic, though once you get a higher level settlement you can autopay taxes from the bank.
