Noob Questions So Far
Bought the game yesterday, haven't gotten slaughtered yet, but there are some points I'm confused on.

1.) How do I feed my pet? I figured out how to trade with her and tried putting the food in her inventory, and she ate some of the food, but she doesn't always eat when hungry.

2.) Is there a way I can turn off the "Attack" option when using the middle mouse button to interact with my pet? It's stuck in there nicely between Talk and Trade and I just know I'm going to eventually click it by accident.

3.) How can I see my pet's health and other information?

4.) I apparently need to somehow get 500 oren in the next 17 days (I was under the impression that the taxes would be income-based but I guess that's not the case, oh no). I have the shipping container, and threw some random stuff I had in it, but how do I know how valuable any given item is? I don't see prices anywhere. Is there an Appraise skill or something I need?
4b.) Also, is the value of perishable items determined by their condition at the time I put them in the box, or the time they arrive at wherever the shipping box takes them?

5.) I somehow have an Ice Arrow spell. I don't think I started with it (I'm a Farmer, so not a magic-oriented class), and I definitely didn't purchase it. Where did it come from?

6.) Where do I see my carrying capacity and the total weight of carried items? I found out carrying capacity was a thing after I found myself taking damage from my backpack crushing me, but I don't know what my limit is.

7.) Sometimes boxes show up in my area. They don't seem to have anything inside of them, but I get an oak plank for breaking them. Where are they coming from?

8.) I got a message telling me I received a package, but I don't see it. Where do packages come in?

9.) One of the items I found says it boosts tourism value. How does this work? Should I care about it at this point in the game?

10.) Can everyone eat the same things? ie, if something is edible for me, will it also be edible for my pet little girl?

1- trade them food item. they should eat them when they get hungry.

2 - I don't think you can, however that never happened to me in 30+ hours, so that shouldn't be a problem.

3 - Sorry IDK, but there seems to be a widget to show the health of party members of the side of the screen

4 - Taxes are proportional to the value of your fame. But there is a minimum fee of 500. Nothing hard to get, really. Go in puppy cave and grab everything that isn't nailed, and you should be good in 2-3 days. That being said, identified items are worth way more than unidentified ones, so you should get the identification skill sooner rather than later. It's either in the campement 1 day north or in Palmia or Lumia I don't remember where exactly (keep following the road north east from campment). You can identify by talking to a mage ( there is one in the campment) but there is a significant fee.

5 - you can dream of magic when you sleep. That gives you a few charge in a random spell. there is also a feat that allow you to always dream of magic ( but you need the casting skill to select it)

6 - Botom bar, on the right side. there is also a warning on the left side when you get too encumbred. "Burden" and "Burden!" are okay, especially if you get the weightlifting skill (in the campment) as it allow to train strenght and augment carry limit, but 'Overweighted' and 'overweighted!' are bad because you get too slow and take damage regularily. You can also stumble when using stairs and take a significant amount of damage at that point (which might kill you). Squashed stops you from moving and you'll take significant damage once in a while

7 - Either comes from citizens or when you use a box in town to send items back to your home.

8 - It's usually near the home cristal. It might be sent into your mailbox if you have one.

9 - If they are displayed, they attract visitors that will stay a few days. They might pay lodging fees if you set a tourist area with beds and food.

10 - AFAIK, unless it's precised in the character race, everyone can eat everything. Except snails who die when they eat salt lol. there is also the canibalism mutation that you can get if you eat humanoid meat and will disgust you from normal food.

4 - Okej, so I want to prevent fame from going up too quickly, good to know.

5 - Oh, neat, I thought dreaming of magic was a specific feat you had to take that replaced the usual dreaming of recipes.

6 - Okej I'm dumb, what bottom bar are you talking about? I see the red for health, the blue for magic, and the yellow for stamina. I also don't see the UI on the left that you're talking about, do I need to do something to enable it?

7 - I don't have any citizens yet, unless the tutorial people count, who's putting up all these boxes? :o

8 - like, on the ground? Okej, I'll try and find it, hopefully it didn't get destroyed by the rain or something...

10 - ooh, mutations? Can everyone get those, or only that Chaos Shape race?

1) your pet will eat when hungry and usually when it has a little downtime. try felling a tree or picking up some rocks. Just make sure the food isn't rotten.

2) nope

3) Detailed info you can get only by using gene machine, which is a pretty advanced item that allows you to modify your pets with genes

4) appraising is for unidentified items (with a little ?), you can guess a value of an item by visiting a merchant and trying to sell, it will be shipped for a little extra than what a merchant would pay for it. If an item rots in the box, you get rotten price.

5) Random chance to gain magic and/or recipe when you sleep

6) bottom right

7) if you didn't send it, it's completely random. You can find and enact a policy to stop receiving these random packages in your house board

8) Usually near the heartstone

9) boosts income from when you have tourists visiting your base. You probably have other things to worry about than tourists at your stage of progress.

10) Yes and consequently whatever harms you harms everyone else.

A very easy way to earn enough money to pay taxes is to collect flowers. Just travel through the eight squares around your base and pick all the flowers, then toss them in the shipping box and you'll easily make enough for the taxes. There are some other tricks that let you earn a full month worth in a day via crafting too.

The bar at the complete bottom, where all your stats are displayed. The weight is on the right side. You can go beyond the displayed number, but you will be burdened ( which is good, but only if you have the skill 'weightlifter'

[7 - I don't have any citizens yet, unless the tutorial people count, who's putting up all these boxes? :o]
I think they count, albeit not for the max number of citizens. Thoses boxes might well be the 'deliveries' you're missing.

10 - ooh, mutations? Can everyone get those, or only that Chaos Shape race?
.Everyone can get mutations. If you feel like ganbling, be sure to drink from wells and water dispensers you find. You can get mutations which can be either bad or good. This is a risky but good way to get massive stat boosts. ( I've got +4 in perception and +5 in learning) .
Each mutation usually range from -3 to +3 ranks for a specific stat. The more good mutations you have, the more chance you have to get bad ones, so don't push your luck. To get rid of mutations, you'll need a potion of cure mutation, but the ones who get deleted are random. A blessed potion has more chance to get rid of bad ones rather than good ones. At some points, you'll want to use blessed potions of mutations because you'll have too much chance to get a bad one. In the end, if you want to keep getting good ones, you'll need potions of Evolution, which only grant good mutations (blessed ones are better)

this is completely different from Ether mutations, which you'll probably get to learn about one year after the start of the game (and which mostly range from mild to very bad)

I'd like to use this thread for a question.

Is it possible to craft spell books or scrolls? im not very far in but im playing a Wizard and I was wondering how to gain more spell charges quicker aside from using the Dream Waker trait/skill.
Akameka Nov 9, 2024 @ 2:23am
I don't know of that yet, I might not be a t that point.

Although, if you join the mage guild in Lumia town ( east) with a recomendation letter youc an buy to city mages for 1500-2000 coins, and contribute enough to the guild by decyphering ancient books, you'll get acces to and 'order' service for all spells you know. The merchan will only stockpile the books you required, and you can invest in them to increase the number of books.

Hrrm, I still haven't been able to find the package I got notified about... I hope it wasn't important.
EDIT: I found the letter, it was behind my homeboard, which completely obscured it from view.

New question! In my travels, I encountered... uh, a sparkly rabbit. Like, the rabbit has these glowing yellow particles about it. What's that about?

for spell, best you can do is go grind caves and dungeon repeatedly for tome and staff for random spell, idk of a way to recharge a specific spell

Another question - I have received another Little Girl companion as a quest reward. I am now over the companion limit. How do I dismiss one of them?

Also, I have created an instrument. I appear to be able to practice it, but I can't find "Music" or anything similar in the list of skills - where do I find my current musical skill?

Tell them to wait at home. You can also get 'Party Animal'.

Edit: You probably do not have music yet.

The sparkly enemies are far more likely to give cards and trophies, and maybe more likely to give corpses, I've noticed them often dropping them at least.

As to getting rid of a companion, you middle-click on them while nearby to talk to them, then you can tell them to wait at home. I took a while to figure out how to talk, also works on a lot of human npcs in towns that just show the combat option. Related: talking raises negotiation skill, so I try to talk to every npc and spam talk.

I have been finding these eggs from bird nests. What do I do with them? I tried cooking and eating one and nothing much seemed to happen. I think a tutorial message came up telling me, but I have the memory of a log (as in, a piece of wood, not like a book log, which presumably has a very good memory).

Ah, damn, guess I should have murdered that bunny then. I decided not to murder it since it could talk (actually, all animals seem to be able to talk, even though I don't have the feat that lets me talk to them).

Whenever I use the "let's talk" dialogue option, it makes people like me less. Am I doing something wrong?

Oh no... How do I get music? I'm clearly improving, since my companions stopped constantly throwing rocks at me, but I still don't have a music skill.

EDIT: Found the trainer, apparently I need to pay them extra to unlock skills I don't already have. Cool. People are still throwing rocks at me whenever I perform but I'm sure it'll get better.

Talking has a higher chance for a negative result the more they like you, which I find stupid. There is a mod that sets it to only have either a positive or neutral effect if it bothers you like it does for me. You should be fine as long as they don't drop to -50 I think it was.
Zedrin Nov 10, 2024 @ 5:47am
Cause I don't believe it was mentioned, one easy and safe way to make money early on is to farm up a bunch of grass and then craft it into grass floor/walls. The crafting uses no stamina, and you'll get a lot of grass from resource gathering over time, so it's a good use of your surplus.
