Basic Build anyone?
Looks for some basic builds. What are some good races and classes?

I went Elea and priest but, I think its the feats that really specialise you, for example you have heavy armor casting as a feat which turns me into more of a cleric or paladin. you have a feat that lets you have more active followers. and other unique feats that specialise you. you can be a warrior type, rogue type ranger, mage / healer. the more you do that thing the better you get at it.

Race: Elea class: Warmage
imo that one is pretty new player friendly

Mages in general are pretty good I think. They start out a bit slow, but once you get some arrow books they're really, really strong.

If you invest heavily in strength (like Hillfolk warrior of opatos) throwing weapons will do a ton of damage and you'll have a ton of health from the strength and endurance stats.

I went Fairy and Thief
I'm going for an evasion-tank type build, and it's been great so far. The one downside is that fairies can't equip gear heavier than 1s

I think the most newbie-friendly build is something like demigod/yerles paladin, worship jure as soon as you can, you get some nice perks and you'll be tanky with access to good heals, and lay hand is a free revive you get once per sleep (only if you worship jure)

easy start: use one weapon only (big dmg, high chance to hit), no shield.
get the magic dream trait asap to get some spells in memory.
equip your little girl (best pick) with single weapon, give her bandages.
(farm a bit and craft a TON of bandages, they heal a lot and are cheap.

you should be able to clear anything with 1-3 hunting stars now.

you can quickly farm platinum coins by combining patrol and hunt quests, remember you can reroll quests by just completing them, in 20 min you can get like 50 plat coins without leaving a town.

after that do whatever you want. You dont even have to start as a two-hand warrior for this, but it surely makes things easier, your little girl will kill everything for you.

ofc you need to find some weapons, but nearly anything will do.

configure autocombat to not stop when your target dies and you can just autocombat entire maps, this also makes you level strategy, which also gets you new trait points faster.

Gonna second Demigod/Yerles Paladin. It's an incredibly strong build for how easy it is to set up.

Little Girl as your starting companion. Find and worship Jure - god of healing - ASAP.

After getting some platinum coins, get Riding and Symbiosis from the Tinker's Camp just north of where you start (Yerles gets a small platinum discount). You'll want a second companion soon (IIRC you may need to take the Max Ally +1 feat..?).

Have the Little Girl equip a ranged weapon or get into magic, and have her ride on your shoulders with Symbiosis, while riding a tankier/shield-bearing companion.

You are now a stack of death with powerful healing options and the mentioned daily revive.

When you ride something, does the mount always gets hit first ?

Yep, the order goes "mount, rider", so if you're riding something with high PV/health you basically have a shield.

And they don't die when they hit 0 as a mount, they go unconscious.

It also makes whatever's riding you (with Symbiosis) basically invincible, as they have to kill you (their mount) to start hurting them.

Fairy executioner is the S tier build. Elea priest is not bad at all. Priest has access to the holy domain which has most healing and buff spells, in addition to plenty enough attack spells. They get a bonus to god favor which makes everyone stronger. And Elea have the highest base potentials of any race. Their racial perk isn't too impressive but reduced ether disease does make the game a lot more forgiving, especially for a beginner.

Juere is a solid all rounder race. Their bonus gives them higher stat boosts from food so they'll end up with good stats all around.

Isn't that how the symbiote works? I was pretty sure you could still get hit while on a horse.
Demigod paladin of jure. Focus on two-handing. Good damage, very tanky as you get a free revive each day when worshipping jure (this is paladin-exclusive to be clear), has good stats and potentials in everything, especially charisma. Pretty much the "john elin" build with an easier start that can springboard towards any particular playstyle pretty easily.

I believe an additional perk to paladin is that they don't recieve penalties for abandoning gods and they get favor more quickly with their current god, so it's likely feasible to just go around and collect multiple follower pets quickly which would be an easy way to have a powerful and diverse party

Paladins do suffer a penalty for abandoning gods. Their perks are lay hands with Jure and increased god favor bonuses.

OP, just take a look at these:

https://ylvapedia.wiki/wiki/Elin:Race

Base stats and starting skills don't really matter. Base potential bonuses, the little numbers in green, matter somewhat, but the main things you want to look for are good perks on the far right, and good speed, life, and mana for races near the center. Speed doesn't matter if you ride a horse or something, mana doesn't matter if you don't use magic.

Having fun is the best way to play a rpg game. It's not a grind if you are having fun. The most important thing is to learn the game mechanics and focus on what you want to be.

Yeah the key to enjoying Elona and Elin is to do whatever seems fun and let your stats rise naturally as you go. It's ok if you're horrible at crafting or magic or whatever, just be good at what you want to do. Playing these games optimally is miserable.
