Locked chests as dungon clear rewards
Really? Why do we need to pass lockpicking checks if we want to claim our rightfully earned loot? Some of design choices in Elin are absolutely beyond me tbh.

you mean you can't just pick the chest up and drag it home with you for later?
I think its meant to keep lock picking relevant, i only find locked chests as dungeon rewards

the locked chest from the final boss can be unlocked with 0 lockpick, but you need to have a lockpick item with you. I found that out the hard way.

You can bring locked chests to informers to have them unlocked

Yeah that's a bit silly don't you think? Considring in Elona you could find random locked chests inside dungeons for bonus loot which served this purpose well enough.

Cool, but why do i even have to do that?

Huh thanks i'll try that.

Why do i even have to do that, what purpose other than pure tedium does that serve?

Tedium and complications is part of the fun of roleplaying

You can roll items with lockpicking skill or just go learn lockpicking.

nahh, thanks, I prefer the hilarity of the emergent outcomes. When you try to haul all the chests back with you, and get crushed by them. Or you carry it all the way back to informer just to find some garbage loot inside. This is a part of the fun.
Taking into account that now you can have all kind of NPCs in your settlement, many things became much simpler than they where in Elona.

I mean, it kind of makes sense. If you're running a powerful dungeon or gang you're gonna want a lock on your most valuable stuff.
But yeah maybe some alternative means of opening the chests could be explored. Via sudden unscheduled sword to the lock mechanism style.

That would make sense if chest wasn't explicit "reward" for killing boss, like these chests in fixed dungeons in Elona, which were locked, but also available before you kill boss so you can sneak around if you're able and pick them, but this is completely different case.

There is nothing "roleplaying" about this, it's completely arbitrary just to make your life worse like non-regenerating stamina.

This would make sense if chests got spawned before you kill boss so you could sneak past them and pick&loot it, but noooo

"Completely arbitrary" is having a guaranteed "reward chest" at the end of the dungeon, as that's nothing more but a meta mechanic of the game to "reward" you for pressing buttons.
There are plenty of chests that are spawned regardless of the boss, they can be locked too. Are you fine with those?
Dracon Nov 7, 2024 @ 5:45am
You should take it with you in any case, since you can ship it for 250 Gold.

Yeah that's what i was talking about if you didn't read and/or try to understand what i wrote, but i'm fine with them because they do not require anything else than lockpicking to get their contents, they're not reward, they're opportunity.

But but they are reward chests for "opening the door", "walking into a room" or "getting" to that dungeon level. Why are they locked too and what makes them just "opportunity"?
