Yet it's a very good game and interesting to play IMO
As for using the 'shalow' term, that's definitely not one I would use. Elin/Elona is deep enough to be better played with a direct link to the wiki on hand in case of doubt, cause there are way too much things to remember lol
If you really want to 'try' it without buying, Elona+ is still in free access on the web. It will give you an idea of what kind of game it is.
to be fair, 2 hours are definitelly not enough for this game.
So, is it a form of competitive autism like Kenshi, or Dwarf Fortress? If yes, does it hold a candle to them? If it does, I'm definitely interested
The game is a pretty open sandbox. If you like the openness and chaos of Kenshi and Dwarf Fortress, you'll find something similar.
I wouldn't say it's at the level of thoses two lol.
But in the same way, the game revolves on its own logic that might be hard to grasp until you get enough experience with it. there are as many ways of becoming 'stronger' than there are to get screwed in your progression (although there is nothing unrecoverable, but some things might set you back quite significantly if you're not carefull.) And as each ways make sense in the game world, it's easy to pass them by without involving in it, and then take forever to progress your character, or do something and get screwed.
What I mean is, like in Kenshi/dwarf fortress, there are 'noob traps' such as :
> starting with a race/class combinasion for masochists (tourist snail lol)
> Thinking that needing less sleep & food is a good thing (it's not. Eating and sleeping is part of the character progression)
> Using unidentified consumables or gear and realise they are cursed.
> Using cheap food without stat growth
> Not reconising what is usefull from what is not
> eating halucinogen shrooms and murdering someone with a spell because you thought it was a monster (lol)
> Forgetting to pay your taxes and lose all your karma, forcing you to avoid most cities until you settle your problem differently
> Dying from overspending stamina/mana
> Getting your stats cursed enough to be unable to fight until you see a priest
> Getting parasyted by an alien wich will release in the middle of a town and contamine everyone, so the city turn into a slaughter fest each time you come by.
> getting some piece of your gear destroyed by Coldf/fire/acid damage...
> Getting STDs...
> Getting bad mutations....
> And so on.
I think with a couple years of development, it will be far more balanced, but for me it was just too annoying and not fun to play.
This isn't true at all.
*looks away nervously*
