Worth a buy?
In your opinion, is this game worth it to buy and play right now? Not for the game it can be when the Early Access ends, but today? I saw a couple videos, but was not able to form an opinion. How shallow is it?

it's hard to say. Elin/Elona doesn't have a gameplay that is interesting to watch. Someone who isn't involved in playing will find it boring and too slow.

Yet it's a very good game and interesting to play IMO

As for using the 'shalow' term, that's definitely not one I would use. Elin/Elona is deep enough to be better played with a direct link to the wiki on hand in case of doubt, cause there are way too much things to remember lol

If you really want to 'try' it without buying, Elona+ is still in free access on the web. It will give you an idea of what kind of game it is.

If only steam allow you to refund in 2 hours
to be fair, 2 hours are definitelly not enough for this game.

So, is it a form of competitive autism like Kenshi, or Dwarf Fortress? If yes, does it hold a candle to them? If it does, I'm definitely interested

There's a lot of game here, even in early access. There are story quests, guilds to rank up, you can develop your home(s) and maybe make it into some kind of business. You could just focus on dungeon diving, or collecting strong companions. There are minigames such as gambling and putit basket ball.

The game is a pretty open sandbox. If you like the openness and chaos of Kenshi and Dwarf Fortress, you'll find something similar.

Elin is definitely anything but shallow, it hides a lot behind its cover.

I wouldn't say it's at the level of thoses two lol.

But in the same way, the game revolves on its own logic that might be hard to grasp until you get enough experience with it. there are as many ways of becoming 'stronger' than there are to get screwed in your progression (although there is nothing unrecoverable, but some things might set you back quite significantly if you're not carefull.) And as each ways make sense in the game world, it's easy to pass them by without involving in it, and then take forever to progress your character, or do something and get screwed.

What I mean is, like in Kenshi/dwarf fortress, there are 'noob traps' such as :
> starting with a race/class combinasion for masochists (tourist snail lol)
> Thinking that needing less sleep & food is a good thing (it's not. Eating and sleeping is part of the character progression)
> Using unidentified consumables or gear and realise they are cursed.
> Using cheap food without stat growth
> Not reconising what is usefull from what is not
> eating halucinogen shrooms and murdering someone with a spell because you thought it was a monster (lol)
> Forgetting to pay your taxes and lose all your karma, forcing you to avoid most cities until you settle your problem differently
> Dying from overspending stamina/mana
> Getting your stats cursed enough to be unable to fight until you see a priest
> Getting parasyted by an alien wich will release in the middle of a town and contamine everyone, so the city turn into a slaughter fest each time you come by.
> getting some piece of your gear destroyed by Coldf/fire/acid damage...
> Getting STDs...
> Getting bad mutations....
> And so on.

Yes, Elona is arguably one of the oldest games in the genre. Elin doesn't currently have as much content as Elona+ does but it does have much deeper systems, I bought it on release and have put 26 hours into it so far and still feel like I've only begun to get started with it.

It was not for me...yet. I love Kenshi, but this game just really felt too punishing with the stamina bar and food requirements. It also randomly kills you a lot, and many things are not intuitive.

I think with a couple years of development, it will be far more balanced, but for me it was just too annoying and not fun to play.

Not worth buying because you will waste countless hours playing it. You go to sleep thinking about it, and wake up thinking about it. At works you spend hours reading the discussions.

This isn't true at all.
