if you have cash you can save scum the thief town and buy yourself a trex or high level pet
and you can sometimes luck out and get good DV/PV armor from one of the shops for like 500-1000ish
get weapons that do elemental damage
you can make your own pots using sand and a water source (like at base) and throw bad pots at it til it doesnt move
theres a mod that gives you stat values for mobs you highlight telling you everything youd ever want to know about them
one thing ive noticed is levels are misleading as stats are whats important
The main guy himself was rough though I think I threw potions at him and used weakness?
If by some luck you stumble upon an intonation of lightning scroll use it on yourself against the golems. they have a natural weakness to lightning damage and intonation gives you an temporary lightning enchantment on attacks
other than that make sure you work on your pets equipment. Gear them up decently and maybe acquire a few more allies or summons
I made sure to kill the ice spirits he summons ASAP and then the other units with him (which don't respawn). Ice spirit damage (and especially their shatter due to cold) adds up as their numbers increase.
I also recommend acquiring and using the two hands skill by having one melee weapon and no shield equipped. It seems to be the best way to deal lots of melee damage.
Various debuffs like weakness or thrown poisons you've found also work pretty well on the boss.
The biggest obstacle to overcome is his ability to endlessly cure his own wounds.
The summon animals spell is pretty handy for mass producing chaff to help draw fire away, as well as bringing a large party.
I beat him at 25 STR/END, but I lucked upon a really good weapon and acquired enough blessings on my gear to get my PV up to around 60. The weapon let me barely outdamage the boss' self healing.
(If you're wondering how good that weapon I lucked upon is, let's just say I went from hitting for 40 damage per hit before I found it to hitting for 120 damage per hit. The instant I found it, I thought to myself "Okay, let's try that boss again. Fifth time's the charm!")
Unhelpful, but I didn't do the MSQ for a long time (honestly didn't even realize I eventually got the key). Had 5 companions (all starting ones + older sister) as a hillfolk warrior (earth god) and just autobattled it to death. Definitely overgeared/leveled for it (assuming it doesn't scale). 50 STR/END, 51 DV 97 PV.
Actually, where do you see your level? I just see "depth" on the load screen (30), but that's not level. Feat points? Says 21.
The main dungeon before the sealed gate is definitely level 4.. but below it is definitely not, which should be evident of how long it takes to get the key. Probably more around 20.
Being down one enemy and up one (sort of powerful at that point) ally was helpful back when I did it, since my starting puppy pet was randomly a Mani worshiper.
Without my companion in my first game, it was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare and I used rods of teleport and short teleport to keep myself away so I could heal. I needed 250 silk bandages and 750 rounds of ammo by myself.
