My thoughts on the lore
So i've thought a little bit about the story and how the story for this game may progress and even how this ties into the main series. During this time, i've ran into a few theories other people have thrown around, as well as done some thinking myself, and i just kinda feel like spilling all that out here

Obviously, spoilers ahead

1) So The first thing i wanted to bring up reflects a post someone else made, don't remember where, but after you clear out the smoke and return to what used to be the uncanny streets, yeah the environment looks almost identical to Auction Day. Judging from this little bit of information alone, it was said that this could imply that Dream BBQ is actually a prequel to the YT series. It seemed like us turning off the smoke machine directly influenced how the world inside of Lonely Door looked and operated, basically fundamentally changing things. In some earlier dialogue, Kane mentions that the doors love the smoke, so i guess turning off the smoke would cause the Lonely Door to close itself off, since there's no longer any of that smoke that the doors loved.

2) Another theory i've read about online somewhere, which i thought was even more interesting, is that we, ENA, don't really know what we're doing, or what our actual job is. Thinking back to the game, we do kinda get some hints towards this idea. When we first spoke with Froggy, who tried to communicate to ENA in her language the premise of the job, he seemed to give off an unsure response after we said "aim for the target!". This probably wasn't much on its own, but when talking to theodora the genie, they question if we "understood the ingredients of that word salad" when we brought up the notion of their boss being our "target", which seemed to cause some shock to them. They also mention that our "mind seems to disagree with our words", which would further imply that either we really don't know what Froggy meant by "aim for the bosses guts", or perhaps ENA completely misunderstood Froggy when he said that. There are two additional points in the game that kind of hint this, one of them being way more theoretical.

After returning to the party room after disabling the smoke, Froggy calls us. We tell him that the boss will "be down the drain in no time". Froggy didn't take these words too kindly, it seems, which also alludes to that perhaps ENA and Froggy are talking about a completely different form of "aiming for the bosses guts". The other point that i did mention was more just my own speculation, was the one scene when talking to the gumball machine. We get some sort of vision where ENA is surrounded by a real dark and gritty environment with raining bullets from her hat. I have seen some people mention that there may be some reference to a war, or otherwise violence that took place, and that ENA may be directly apart of that. Perhaps the very beginning scene of the game was an aftermath of a war, given the desolate village, blood red skies, and even what looked like fighter planes frozen in the air.

The last thing i wanted to bring up in regards to this particular topic was in the trailer - we obviously see ENA carrying around a gun at one point, and even making a finger-gun gesture towards the camera, which may further tie this all in. But the one thing i wanted to focus on the most was when ENA is speaking to, whom i assume, is the boss in front of all of the TV monitors that flash some of the various characters we encounter in this game. At the end of that scene, we see a pair of hands on the left side, and a gun on the right. What if at this moment, we get to make a choice to "Aim for the bosses guts" by A) shooting him, or B) doing whatever Froggy wants us to do. Now the wording in this choice most likely won't be this straight-forward, but given the conflicts in interpretation of the job objective, this might not be far off. Obviously, this bit is entirely just my speculation, but i still could not help but feel like there will be something like this at play here.

3) this is a smaller one, but i noticed that at one point, Froggy says to ENA "good job, ENA, you always make work easier", which kind of implies that ENA and Froggy either have worked together before, numerous times, or are pretty much work buddies. Either way, unless the wording is off, it seems like the two know each other quite well and have done jobs together before. Just thought that was a neat little thing to add.

Yeah that was really it. Curious to hear other peoples theories and all that, i'm tired of typing

Ok... But what about the guy on a night like this? I'm sure that smile had to be important! :)

so here's my theory

This guy was secretly a victim of the supposed war that happened in the past. He lost his family, and his home, and didn't have anywhere to turn. One day, he stumbled upon the lonely door, which was very symbolic of him and his loss of loved ones. Feeling desperate, he entered through to find security and refuge.

When he explained his woes to the taxi man, the taxi man introduced him to the place where you currently see him now - a secretive area for those who need it most. The man spent a good while rehabilitating his life in this new area, and would often look out into the night sky shining above the sea for peace and tranquility. Over the next chunk of time, he learned to accept his past, and found his new appreciation for life, for surviving such a horrible past.

Every night, he looks out into the distance, reflecting on his life, proud of the hardships he has overcome. Proud that he has evolved to be a much stronger man than he previously was. When you see the man out there and interact with him, he says nothing. Words are not needed. Only the smile of a man who has been broken, but revived into something brilliant. The smile of a man who forgave himself of his regrets. The smile of a man who believes that, you too, can achieve this level of peace and acceptance. Maybe every once in a while, look out into the beautiful clear night, and clear your mind. There's always a way to pull yourself out of the darkness. You just gotta keep searching.
