How long for another chapter?
I enjoyed the first chapter so I am just wondering if anything has been said about a potential timeline for other chapters or how many total there will be

Depends on how much of the assets Joel has done. Vinny Vinesauce (DRATULA) said he already recorded other lines, so I'm guessing all the voice work is done. And from the trailer, it seems like part of future chapters is done due to game footage not seen in Chapter I (ENA Collecting a tip, ENA holding a fan/lantern). Chapter I took 2+ years from announcement. Maybe 6-12 months????? I'm sure Chapter II is well enough underway. Since this is a 1st person adventure game, there's really no combat to code. That should save time.

Don't forget that a lot of the game's cutscenes/dialogue are 2D animation, and presumably creating assets like these would take up a majority of the development time. If you're unfamiliar, animating frame by frame means each frame is an individual drawing that must be cleaned up and colored. Even if you assume the majority of the coding and voicing is done right now, the animation by itself could take up multiple years if they are doing as much 2D animation as they did for this chapter.

You do have a point.
big advantage of episodic stuff like this is ability to adapt per episode could already have three chapters of this done but pacing it out gives time to course correct if issues arise or find points that hit really well to expand on

game had taken bit too long since its announcement and sounds like a lot of scope creep had to be pared back chapters release is fresh dose of money and attention and can let the team see how well everything does on the field while getting a lot of free advertising of an small but solid test drive

and seems to be working everyone seems to love it new fans coming in and old returning as long as they keep incoming chapters to months or so should do well

do think they pared back a bit much though getting to the bathroom seems to mostly just be about dying in the area given how disasters end up locking you in routes seems there should be a third route for some disaster outside your control happening and just ending up where you needed to go anyway by chance preferably with fire triangles and fighting sea machine things
