Performance has gotten worse and 2d cutscenes still lag a lot
I don't really know what else to say that I haven't said a lot already and I probably sound really annoying at this point but it bothers me a huge amount that this still hasn't been properly fixed and in a different way has somehow gotten worse, even with the option to change quality to low for cutscenes they STILL lag. Nothing I do really changes anything, the only way I can play without any huge dips in frames in any case at all now is if I set the resolution to the lowest quality and well, quite hard to play the game normally like that.

I'm annoyed that not only did they release a patch that simply just gave a cheap option that didn't really optimize anything (in fact not even just the cutscenes run bad now, for some reason the game itself seems to run worse than it did before), I'm annoyed this is even an issue in the first place.

These are 2d graphics. They are *literal video files* and there's no reason they should be running worse than having to load actual 3d polygons and I'm confused why it does. And I still see other people that are dealing with this, and I'll reiterate this as well, their specs seem to mostly be mid-end.

Again I'm sorry if this comes off too harsh I'm writing this at like 3 in the morning. I'm just really annoyed that my enjoyment of this game has been dampened so much by such a weird issue that is barely being acknowledged, I understand that most people playing aren't dealing with this but there are still a good amount of people like me who can't play or enjoy the game because this is significant enough of an issue. Thanks for reading my dumbass rambling I guess

bumping up this post

You know I really wonder how the hell people have problems with games that are optimized. Personally I have no problems with the game. Maybe you just have a sh(tty laptop.

You're using an integrated GPU from 2012, not surprising it runs like ass 💀

yeah, im sorry, i think ive been getting a bit heated about this, and sort of turned to blaming the devs for optimization or whatever even though i dont know truly what kind of effort goes behind that process, i guess i just got too ahead of myself seeing that people still had problems and assumed the worst. the game actually runs decently smooth when on 512x384 and the patch with text scaling did help to make stuff mor readable for that. Sorry for the trouble, ive had other issues with this laptop too so ig i kinda went into this too hastily

yeah im sorry for the trouble, I think most of it could be explained by the current state of this laptop and was too quick to make bold assumptions the whole time

You know your laptop is a poop right?.. no offense.

so you're playing on a chromebook and you are wondering why it doesn't run well?
sometimes you have to take a step back and wonder if you are the problem.
I decided to do my own benchmarking here with my cpu which has intergrated graphics/ iGPU in it. Now, my cpu is the Intel i9 12900k but my framerate was also pretty bad when playing the game with the iGPU which I will explain why.

The game is running at 1440p and would usually stay at a somewhat stable 29-31 fps with the lows going down to 23 and the highs going up to 41. This game isn't necessarily badly optimized but just isn't CPU reliant meaning the game prefers the user have a gpu to run on. (more explanation below)

I've provided some images with some benchmarks I took. You can see that the percent of CPU being used throughout the playthrough is really low and rarely ever went above 10 let alone 7 which is the culprit. This number can be seen just to the right of the 12900k. Please note I also tried to avoid spoilers so some parts on two of the images are blacked out. If you wish to see them along with another image I didn't post then just reply.

Hope this helps somehow :steamhappy:
(Edit: also if I got anything wrong pls correct me)

This laptop did pretty well with other slightly higher end games but yeah, I was too quick to judge, I take it back and I got a little too invested cause I was too caught up in my excitement to play the game which ended up making me more frustrated lol, I still find it a little weird but I managed to finish the game 2 times already on low graphics settings since this post. Again sorry for the trouble

This is actually very thorough, thank you!! I appreciate the work you did to check that, I think I understand this a bit better now. I didn't even think to consider that would be the case honestly

Thank you! I'm glad that you can better understand the performance now.
