I have no clue what you're saying. Guess I'm too dumb for this series.
Also, the lack of cohesive theming, while confusing, still exists within a certain framework and it allows for a wide variety of expressive character traits. There are still patterns, too, that are broken when emphasis is supposed to be placed on particular traits or themes for some reason.
So, yeah, it doesn't make much sense in a traditional context but there are still patterns to it... you just have to keep an open mind and zoom out a little. For example, during dialogue the intonation is sometimes out of sync with how you would understand the words as they are written but they still mean what they are saying in an obvious interpretation. Case in point, the "Shaman." I think its fun.
Not all of it I don't think has any obvious point. It can just be for fun, too, because a particular gimmick is humorous or visually interesting.
As far as goals, yeah you just have to pay attention and identify what you're looking for through use of context.
Surrealism: (definition by wiki)
Artists aimed to allow the unconscious mind to express itself, often resulting in the depiction of illogical or dreamlike scenes and ideas. Its intention was, according to leader André Breton, to "resolve the previously contradictory conditions of dream and reality into an absolute reality, a super-reality", or surreality.

Cheat Note: (by me)
Nothing makes sense because it's like being half awake in a dream world and in the real world at the same time. Things make sense to a point but not in the rational normal way you think while wide awake.
As for the characters and story , all of that is for you to have a interpretation for yourself as that is what Surrealism is. It's a personal experience you have in living it.
In the end of the game's run you are going to come up with your own self created conclusions of what exactly is transpiring though out the game and world.
