Crossing the river without using Mayonnaise

So I crossed the river without using the mayonnaise on the creepy 6 eyed child, is this intended?

Once I crossed the river bank by jumping across the little island it did the light effect when you are sent out of bounds and I was teleported to the other side of the river (with the crane and old lady) and auto-completed the quest for me without consuming the mayonnaise. Is this an intended route, or a possible way to wave 10 coins? I'd also like to know if anyone else has done this.

You can also just get across by not reviving the guy. He will be blue and dead in front of the bridge, it's funny. So yes, intended.
