Cutscenes already don't play in multiplayer. The worst that happens is shira's dialogue changes depending on the host's progress.
Demo shouldn't enjoy more stage than demo intention.
The game is already well receive without implementing your stingy request.
This game also has no intention to hand hold.
Also, not majority of coop games "often" enjoy the feature like what you describe.
Those who implement are "very generous".
Those who don't are just normal practice, and easier code management.
"Demo" with only few restriction?
Nah, demo should have 85% of restriction.
meaning everyone has already paid for the base full game.
Demo is actually an older version of the game prior to release, with only 2 stages and one actual boss fight.
Demo lacks a lot of the amenities that the base game does (like auto-casting) and the base game is not backwards compatible with older versions of itself.
Demo itself has a few different patterns and mechanics compared to release version, difficulty on Demo Lunar is comparable to Release Hard.
You can still download the Demo and play with friends that do not have the full game, Demo still has full multiplayer functionality, just nobody plays it because full game exist.
I was just able to download the demo just fine a few days ago to play with some friends, it's not an exploit, it's a base functionality on Steam that is just hidden away from a lack of UI.
Well, now I'm not buying it anyways because of the separate matchmaking. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising has free edition players play together with paying players. The notion that you'll hide the playerbase from the demo players to motivate them into buying the game is dumb.
The game is good enough to not require marketing shenanigans (because it's clearly not a dev limitation). This isn't the first time I refuse to buy a game due to dumb corporate ideas (Yakuza 8 paid NG+ comes to mind).
I guess you can say that the demo not giving you full access to the entire game is a marketing shenanigan, but it's a pretty common one.
