Switching audio devices midgame

If I'm using wireless headphones and they run low on battery, switching to another audio device will leave the game in dead silence until it's restarted. This is super annoying in co-op. Could the game be changed to swap audio devices if the current one disappears?

Unfortunately, this is a still-standing gamemaker issue. I think they've worked on it a bit in more recent updates, but it's still not possible to let you switch audio output devices in-game.
