Is Lunar mode winnable solo?
Title, I cannot for the life of me do enough damage before the DPS checks which makes me feel it's nearly impossible solo without a god build

Very much so, in fact there's a surprising amount of leeway in lunar as far as the DPS check goes (first boss only needs ~300 dps to defeat before enrage timer; the last boss can be done with a jank-ass build only doing ~900).

If damage really is your limiting factor and nothing else, then the only thing I can recommend is switching bunnies if you've been sticking to only one. Some are just easier to get online (dancer, bruiser) with the current item pool than others (heavyblade, assassin), but they all can complete lunar runs. GL

Hmm, then I guess it might be a skill issue LOL

Lunar Mode checks feel super brutal

This is why Lunar mode is comparable to Savage in FFXIV. (The game this games is based on.) This is not something you'll succeed on first try. Some players there need lot of hours of practice to get a single win. This is what's expected of the Lunar difficulty.

There are a few ways to increase your DPS by just a little bit while it is just barely being enough to get past the time limit.

1. Use your defensive if you are using a character that gains a buff from it.

(for example, the spellsword's hex debuff).
You'll be using your defensive for DPS gain but if you're skilled enough at dodging, you should be fine.

2. Buy any potions that can increase DPS at the shop.

I don't know all the shop potions but one decreases GCD and another does a few thousand damage after a certain number of times has passed. Also, always buy a golden potion if you ever see one, as that extra gold can help you buy more upgrades for your abilities.

3. restart your run if the treasurespheres you get in the outskirts don't increase DPS.

Getting Green treasurespheres can often be a death sentence after the outskirts.

4. Go to easier areas first, like Emerald Lakeside, so that you are more prepared for the much more annoying area bosses in the other places.

What difficulty is this post about again?

lunar damage checks are pretty difficult depending on the class and combos you play , but usually you can do the first zone with 275-300 dps, and some stages can be easier or harder depending on if you have AOE or not. i like scholar's nest because it feels easiest to do even with bad movement speed.
you should look at prioritizing good item or ability synergy for consistent lunars without damage checks. things like buying a special upgrade that ups your damage from 350 to 500 or applies Flame can honestly allow you to do first stage of lunars w/o any good damage items! or, even one good damage items like Bloodhound Greatsword [rns.miraheze.org], Deathcap Tome [rns.miraheze.org] can let you greed with more defensive/future build combos.
my lowest dps lunar clear was 1161 dps on Druid (and the rabbit phases took so long.)

It's demanding, but it's doable most of the time. If you get no useful damage items out of the first two chests you may as well restart there though.
You might want to consider picking starting area based on what class you're playing. Or more accurately, avoiding the ones that are bad for you. As in, assassin has a hard time with mice because it's difficult for her to hit both Meg and Varo at the same time, so don't pick them. Or ancient has a hard time with wolves because Merran keeps dodging back and forth and it's awful trying to keep your pet near her, so stay away. Stuff like that. You can't control who you get second/third but you can at least make sure the first area is doable.
(what i really mean is start with crows, crows are easy)
