How do I free aim?

Hi.

I just started the game (solo for now). I'm enjoying it, but I gather that it's possible to freely aim AoEs? I've looked at the options, but there doesn't seem to be an explicit "free aim" keybind. However, I have right-click bound to nearest target and left-click to change target. Despite this, when I click or hold down right-click, a little text pops up (briefly) saying "Free Aim." However, I can't actually free aim. I'm moving with the mouse, and moving my mouse simply moves my character. I had expected it to disable mouse movement while free-aiming or something, but no. Nothing.

Can someone help me figure out how to do this? I'm having a bit of trouble with targeting in general, too. It's not particularly clear who I'm targeting and when. Left-click seems to change the target indicator VERY slightly from the right-click indicator, but that's about it.

Any advice?

You can't. You always aim at a boss, or at the average distance between all targets if you hold change target button (also makes you move slowly so careful).
