Switch controller button layout?
Would it be possible to have a controller type option for this?

You can freely change your inputs in the Keybind menu (in options).
I'm not sure if there's a specific issue with the Switch controller, but if there is please let me know!

This is a switch controller: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/A0TfCnAdHEQ/maxresdefault.jpg (ignore that it's for some mod for I don't know what, it's the clearest picture I can find)
This is an XBox controller: https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/7d72e47f-a2aa-430b-93ec-f897cdc05b32.ecdfe47f0493dbfebb466154d0b9a373.jpeg

When you use a controller with the switch button layout on PC, unless a game supports replacing button graphics for it, you end up with the markings swapped, but the positions correct; for example, primary attack is still the left face button, but the game displays X, whilst on the controller the button is Y.
The result is the button prompts are never correct in games, and if I were to rebind things in game, they'd still show the incorrect prompt, because it would change the physical button it's bound to.

If the user rebinds them via steam instead of the game, you commonly end up with a less-useful button layout as the tradeoff for on-screen prompts matching up; in this case, primary would be the top face button, secondary the right face button, defensive the left face button, and special the bottom face button (I think).

Ahhh I see the issue. I don't think it would be too hard to add a config option for it. If haven't gotten to it in like a week or so bump this thread

As a quick work-around, swap it in both Steam and in game -- Steam to put them on the right "face", and in game to put it back in the right spot. Then we can put it back to default once an offical version exisits.

Yeah, I've consciously decided not to do that after years of battling with Steam going 'oh, you said you used a switch controller once; I'm going to mess with your controls for every game, ever'. Steam's controller support generally is great, right up until you start rebinding stuff in it.
I'd honestly rather put up with it until it's properly supported by Rabbit & Steel than do that and try to undo it later.

can you pleeeeeease let us choose which button glyphs to show arbitrarily, i really don't want to refund this game but i cannot play it on the steam deck at all for similar reasons; the xbox layout does not and will never make sense to me, so i need the option in-game to use the playstation buttons (or nintendo style ones). i have modded my steam deck to have playstation style buttons but very frustratingly it is up to individual games to let me choose usable glyphs

the worst part for me is xbox style games tend to use a blue x which is very confusing lol. i really wish they'd use literally any other color. or never used a bizarre backwards layout that has caused me so much grief for years now.

Yeah, metroid's request is probably best.

Just giving the option to swap the visual position of Special/Secondary and Defense/Primary for the cross pattern minibar would fix the issue for me. Using a Nintendo controller "A" is always the right face button for me but having it be the bottom on the cross-mini-bar makes that setting unusable for me when I'd prefer to use it over the other options.

Hello, it's been a week or so. Can you please add the ability to pick the glyphs you want for any controller type? It'd fix everyone's problems!

Spotted the switch buttons in the latest update. Thank you very much.
I'll take this over nothing but I do hope eventually you can just arbitrarily pick the glyphs you want like many games (like FFXIV itself!) have. Every* Devolver game I've tried also has a similar option, if you want a reference.

*Except Sisterhood of the Cosmic Wheel but that game doesn't have many button prompts anyway
I noticed an option that was there before I updated that if I turned it on, it just shows PS controls! If I do

isPs4Controls_v2="1.000000"

it shows PS4 controller even on the steam deck, which is perfect. If you could make this a GUI option I would love it!

For those of you who want to edit this file on the steam deck, it is located here if you install the game into the internal memory:

/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2132850/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/RabbitSteel/SaveFileNonSynced/

Please see my post above yours! I also posted a guide on how to do it in the game guides.
