Help with the Lords of the Sea quest

I received this quest and talked to the characters to find out where the special fish are, but when I go to their location and try to catch them, Diana says that she needs a better fishing rod. I tried talking to Chea to see if she could upgrade my rod again but I don't have the option to do so. I already have the professional fishing rod. Wondering if this is a bug or if I'm missing something?

Nevermind, I progressed Lexua's quest and he gave me his fishing rod :)

Any luck on actually fishing something with his rod? I have no ideas what to do when it says Lascia la lenza

You're supposed to stop holding anything while Lascia La Lenza is up so you don't lose fishing progress. There's no warning it's going to pop up, so you just constantly lose progress.

This is the single worst fishing experience I can remember in a video game in recent memory.

how did you progress the quest?? currently have the same issue where I'm stuck and talking to lexua doesn't do anything

How did you get the fishing rod from Lexua? I keep talking to him, but I can only talk to him normally. I've already got all the locations for the special fish.

progress his friendship quest, you'll get the rod eventually

I was able to get through this by turning the fps down to 30. It seems to make the game run a bit slower and let you react quicker, and I felt that the gauge/bar to reel in the fish progressed faster. It was still somewhat difficult, but before changing the fps setting, I swear I actually spent like 30 minutes trying to reel in one of those fish before just giving up, checking for tips online (found none), and then just decided to play with the settings.

If there's no more quests available with a companion, usually you need to go to sleep and progress to the next day to continue with their quests. Diana usually wakes up and says "hey, maybe i should go see Lexua or call Paun today", or something.
