building bridges/tunnels
Isn't there a better way of building bridges or tunnels? The current method is rather cumbersome and you keep having to delete and rebuild track until you get it right - and that costs money. I think if there was a real height overlay available, it woulld make bridges and tunnels much easier to build without wasting money.

Yes, I know you can adjust the height of the track that you are building, but you can't see at what height the track you are crossing is at. Then in the early age with wooden bridges you get the "too close to a bridge message" when you get it right. In reality, early US railroad engineers managed to build wooden bridges over existing track.

UPD. Wooden bridge type can now be used to construct 2-level cross-overs.

It took me a while to figure out you can't have a double track wooden trestle bridge. 'Existing bridge can't be expanded' doesn't quite tell me what the problem is.

I'm trying to cross a line in order to connect 2 distant cities for passengers and goods, but I can't make a bridge and don't understand why, as I've already done one previously on another line. I've tried to build the line higher and higher, or directly over the others with new H features, nothing works.

In game message say "too close of a bridge" but there is nothing else in area, so I don't understand what's going on :/

It looks like your wooden bridge is a bit at an angle and maybe too low. I would increase the height a bit and wiggle it around so that the wooden posts are as far away from the rail as possible. Once the placement is okay, try to lower it.

Is it possible to run tunnels under other tracks ? Since bridges are such a struggle I thought I'd try a tunnel instead since at least there are no bridge supports to deal with then. Also proved practically impossible. No matter how deep I went it kept interfering with the existing track. Also there seems to be no possibility to connect to the end of an underground tunnel. The ends have to be above ground to be able to connect.

What kind of error are you getting when trying to connect to the existing tunnel?

There is no error, but the track has no end point where the cursor changes to indicate that you can continue laying track from there.

So, it does not snap to the end of the tunnel during construction?

Yes, there is no snapping point when the end of the tunnel is not above ground.

That is strange. I've tested this and it works for me. When you are trying to hover over the existing tunnel end the cursor does not snap to it? Does this happen to every tunnel end or some particular one?

I just want to reproduce the bug, so that I can fix it.

Ok, so I notice indeed that moving the bridge make it available to build.
BUT, there is a problem
here is what I just got. building a stone bridge over 2 tracks but when I move it to get the option to build it, one pillar is on the second track :o

Ok, thank you for the information, I will check the brick bridges.
CobraGuru Aug 16, 2024 @ 8:06pm
you should test with all other type of bridges also I think
haven't yet unlocked the others so can't myself ;)

So any news ? Do you know when you'll have time to work on the bridge problems ?

I can't build any bridge over rail, simple or double. So I can't cross my lines with other lines.
Until now I build tunnels, but I'm in a situation where I don't have enough place for the exit line and can't connect it
So I need a bridge but game refuse to let me build it.

Sorry, for it to take so long. There was a bug that cpuld allow construction of a brick bridge over parallel rails. I've fixed that in the today's update.

You can't build a brick bridge over paralle rails. To bypass this you can do something simillar to what I did in the screenshot below.

Also, when using brick bridges increase height by one meter after allowed height to make it easer to build. Bridge arcs have a very limited tollerance and may complicate construction, so increasing the height of the bridge a bit helps.
