groznyj grad spacial anomaly?

i just realized something while thinking about the plot of this game. how the hell does the latter in the cave snake finds himself in after escaping groznyj grad lead back to groznyj grad? he escaped by jumping into a river which brought him all the way back the the area he was in at the end of the virtuous mission after being thrown into the river by the boss. he then only travels a few hundred feet to the cave where he then finds a latter that leads back to groznyj grad. how is this possible? we had to travel quite a distance to get there the first time. also, i just remembered that the first time snake gets to groznyj grad he had to climb a latter too, except this one was inside of a mountain which was already shown to be much higher than groznyj grad. how did he get there by climbing up? is groznyj grad some sort of silent hill esque non euclidean space???
