Controls suddenly changed.
After the update, I was confused as pressing the Left stick no longer had Snake threaten an enemy in a chokehold.

After a quick bit of experimentation, I found that the ZL button (I'm using a Switch controller) is now used to threaten enemies, however the game still says to press the left stick.

(And while I'm here, I might as well bring up how the button prompts keep changing back to Xbox everytime I start up the game. I have to keep going into options to fix this.)

The mod that changes the resolution fixes the button issue too. You can set your buttons in the config file.

The new controls are just pure laziness. Instead of adding a check to see if Snake was CQCing a guard when you hit L3, they mapped interrogate to L2/LT/ZL. I have zero hope for them fixing anything else reasonably and at this point I hope they just stop and let the community do it. I don’t see any way to roll back the patch even, first time in 13 years I’ve felt the need to roll back a steam patch.

The update today made this game. If it says it ingame, they probably haven't even changed the guide. It is now L2 to interrogate and it is reflected in the online manual.

MGSHDFix 1.0 addon fixes the button prompts when you skip launcher with it. You can change it in the .ini file. Underneath launcher skip option, set your control type (NX is for switch), region, then language. Everything is case sensitive, make sure to type in the options exactly as listed.

Until Konami figures out the Launcher issue, this is your best solution for button prompts. If you want to read the master book or screenplay, you can always take both the .asi and the .ini out of the folder

To be fair, they had 2 ports to add in the word "hold" and didn't do it in both of them. Confusion is not unfounded

It was "press" L3 in both the ps2 and the HD version, so yeah, its their (and not "there") fault.

Wouldn't it be press in PS2? In the HD Collection for xbox 360 they had to put lightly press square to L3 on account of no sensitive buttons, and most likely forgot to update the tooltip to reflect it.

It is exactly the same as in the xbox 360 version were they used L3 for raising/lowering the gun and holding down L3 shortly for the sonar.

They were talking about the tooltip. It still says to press L3 even now when it should be hold
