What you COULD try to do is to disable steam input, navigate to your save folder, and delete the launcher data. That's assuming the launcher has the ability to detect what kind of controller you're using. I know it will default to keyboard if you started playing the game with just keyboard.
ah, gotta wait for a patch or a mod/fix that can modify those default settings without messing with something else, which is something i saw can happen when people tried to auto launch the games smh
I dont even have steam input enabled, you have to use a program to transform the wii u controller raw input into xinput so its usable, so thts not an option, still thanks tho
I think someone may have found a workaround so if i see it i'll post it here
But go to the games properties in steam (right click, click properties) and make the launch options the following
"METAL GEAR SOLID3" -region eu -lan en -selfregion EU -ctrltype NX -launcherpath %command%
You may want to change region and selfregion from "EU" to "US"
This also skips the launcher, but you'll need to alt tab in and out of the game to make it fullscreen.
I'm sure someone will find a better solution though.
aside from alt tabbing it seems exactly what i wanted! not optimal but it'll make do meanwhile, thanks! much prefer it over setting up the button style each time in the launcher and then launching the game lol
Hey thanks for this, I didn't know this was possible. What are the other -ctrltype NX commands besides switch? So if NX is Switch What can I use for PlayStation or Xbox button layout.
I also added this to my Mod List post on the Steam Forums, I hope you don't mind. Will award you for this very helpful post Thanks again.
KBD
NX (nintendo)
PS4
PS5
STMD (probably steamdeck)
XS
Thanks a lot I've credited you in my Mod List thread If you scroll down
I've made scripts to assist with the above if anyone wants to play around with them.
But they probably need more work for ease of use https://github.com/samuskay/Metal-gear-Solid-2-and-3-launcher-skip.
They don't have the alt tab issue though which is nice.
Does this have a conflict with MGSHDFix? Or any other mods? I know the gamestart command works at the very least.
Should note the control prompts DOES work and change when this command line functions. I'm tempted to try out the steam deck prompts to see if it actually is the deck or we just uncovered another lizard people conspiracy
There may need to be a different method for it, however i'm fairly confident those launch options should work.
Sadly don't have a steam deck or linux machine to test.
Just to be sure are there other unity based launch commands I can try toying with and see what's going on? Like the gamestart command we had before this.
The arguments themselves I don't think they're unity based since this is skipping the launcher which is the only part of mgs2 and 3 that is unity based to my knowledge.
If you find a solution let me know.
