kill with knife animals?

Hello used to have this game for PS2. What is the key combo for killing animals with knife? silly question i know, but them you can use them for food which is very important in this game. Any help would be much appreciated. I am using a 360 controller. Maybe that is the issue not very compatible for this game?

You can press L3 to stab in FPV.
You can also do the 3 punch combo in 3RD person the kick will kill.

still cant seem to master it annoying oh well

You can also shoot them or use a mouse trap, honestly killing animals with the 3rd melee attack seems the better option, you can even kick mushrooms.
