Report a translation problem
in the options there is the "on off" of the subtitles (caption), only that by putting "on", the parameter is not saved. If the other settings are changed, they are saved, this setting item even if you put it "on", when you exit and re-enter the options, it appears as "off"..
there would be a way to force settings from game files..

I poked around the save files with notepad and a hexeditor and I'm not seeing a way for us to edit them without a bespoke tool
every time you start the game, you have to go to the "options", put "on" in the subtitles, select "exit" to exit the menu (do not press the B button on the controller which exits) in this the subtitles work.
But you have to repeat this step every time you restart the game..
the other options can be changed and are saved, regardless of whether you press the B key or select "exit" to exit the menu..
I tried this but nothing changes ... My subtitles continue to be set to off ;(
MGS1 also have that.
hi i solved in this way:
Main menù->options->caption on (with A bottom if you have an xbox controller) than press A on Exit-> DON'T RESTART THE GAME but click on Load/New Game and the subtitle are on ON.
this problem can be solved on the big sheel too at the nodes without the ''trick'' a wrote (no big spoiler if you are in blind)
let me know if you have solved
bye
Sadly it doesn't work in the german version :( it doesn't matter if i use "B" or the Exit option, the caption option always jumps back to OFF
