MGS1, Metal Gear NES and Snakes Revenge got a 16:9 update. Which i am quite happy with. Now sadly this isnt the case with MSX ports of Metal Gear 1 and MG2 Solid Snake.
But outside that i say its worth getting. Maybe its not Tomb Raider 1-3 remastered worth getting. But its alright package i think
edit: I guess it would be cool if Konami atleast updated so you can get the choice of 16:9 and Widescreen option in MGS1 like this video.
Now i get its impossible to get widescreen for lets say NES games. But for MGS1 on PS1 i can see it as highly possible.

Random question from a random user who is basically looking for threads like this because they have the same questions, thanks for the absolutely detailed and helpful answer, if I had doubts, I have less now and I'm more inclined to buy the whole collection at this point.
I have one more question though: I'm looking forward to playing MGS3, since I'm playing MGS2 right now, I'm replaying them so I know the games already, it isn't my first time.
I could plug in my trusty old PS3 and play it from there but I would like to avoid it if I can, for obvious reasons. There would also be the other "not-so-legal" way but it is well known that it is not the optimal way to play it since it simply doesn't work.
So the question is: is the port of this specific game... a good port? Does it have any problems? If yes, have these problems been fixed? Would you recommend the game on PC or should I stay on my PS3?
Got no issues in any of the games tbh.
-Even an older PC, the game will probably run at a locked 60 FPS (frame rate is capped at 60, and game speed is still tied to it). The 360/PS3 HDC will frequently drop below 60, which means a slower running game. No other version of MGS3 actually runs at a consistently locked frame rate besides MC and, I think if, you play the 360 version of HDC via backwards compatibility on a Series X, then that's also locked. But that's very specific.
-Load times are damn near instant, which is very noticeable going from area to area when you get a load screen.
-Lots of visual issues that were introduced in the HDC (low-res face texture for Splitter, Green, Infinity, and post-torture faces, incorrect bloom in certain cutscenes, a piece of bush incorrectly in front of the camera in a certain cutscene, and more) have been fixed in the MC. More fixes likely to come, too.
Meanwhile, the biggest current downsides:
-Cutscene audio is compressed, gameplay audio is fine (across all platforms). This is my current biggest issue with the MC and I hope is fixed. For now, can be fixed with mods.
-Resolution is locked to 720p (across all platforms). Can be fixed with mods to run at whatever resolution you want.
-As of patch 1.5.0, vibration has stopped working in MGS2 and MGS3. We're all pretty sure it has to do with changes to controller support and Steam Input, but we'll have to wait for a patch to restore it. The dev team has been super responsive to player feedback with the patches they've been putting out. By this I mean that they've been fixing lots of the little issues players have been pointing out, but just know that the cadence of patches is slow. I'm confident they're aware of this issue now.
In terms of gameplay, this version of the game is perfect. No new bugs were introduced that weren't already there, from what I can tell. I have the Legacy Collection on PS3 and the HD Collection on 360, and I don't think I'll ever touch them again outside of curiosity and comparisons.
That's great to hear, thank you again for this amazing in-depth response. :D
I have no problem in modding my games, I've been doing it for at least a decade and maybe more, I'm totally used to it by now and I knew from the start that I would do it here too, knowing Konami and alas, that's obviously what happened. However it's nice to know that the developers are listening to the community!
As for the issues, I don't have the "need" to buy the collection right now, I will wait for them to be fixed and then adjust accordingly when the time comes, because I'm pretty sure that many things will always be "relegated" to mods, so it's better to wait.
