No Twin Snakes ?
Reasons why and how MGS:Twin Snakes is the definitive and superior version of the MGS1 story :
And why it should get included in the PC collection
:winter2019happyyul: :winter2019happyyul: :winter2019happyyul::winter2019happyyul: :winter2019happyyul: :winter2019happyyul::winter2019happyyul: :winter2019happyyul: :winter2019happyyul:

  • Better graphics/audio - even nowadays TS still look fine, while MGS1 on ps1 is a low-poly pixelated fest, potentialy detering newcomers from getting into the serie. That is also true for music and voice acting which are of much higher quality in TS.

  • Better gameplay - by bringing in MGS2's refined gameplay the player gets much more freedom in every situation, while still being fully optional. People seem to forget how incredibly easy MGS1 already was, even with the original basic and restrictive gameplay.

  • Better "Metal gear vibe" : after MGS1 which was 99% serious and 1% silly, games from the serie settled on a perfect ratio of 85% serious and 15% silly, in that sense TS is much more representative of the rest of the serie. It is also pretty naive to believe Kojima had no input or control on narration, especially cutscenes : the few "silly" TS moments most likely originate from this creative input.

  • Many MGS fans didn't get the chance to try this awesome remake, because they already had a PS2 and couldnt justify purchasing a Gamecube for a single game. As a result including TS in the PC collection will hugely boost sales, as it's a piece of content most fans have missed and will be glad to experience by themselves.

  • The community is demanding it, as demonstrated by this very thread being the most commented upon, and by far. The second most commented topic of these forums is also a TS appreciation thread, that shows how emotionally invested the community is in this game.

Some real internet historians in this thread, lol.

But yes, The Twin Snakes should absolutely be included in a future collection, regardless of how well it sold or was received back in the day.

yes it is. it's mgs 2 battle system with the 1st games story.

The MGS2 gameplay that completely ruins any and all balance. Sure the story is the same if you manage to sit through the snooze-inducing voice acting and the ridiculous over-the-top cutscenes that kills the (relatively) grounded setting of MGS1.

That may be so, but all that goes out the window when you enjoy actually playing it, first person, different ways you could not before. I would gladly accept a copy paste remake in the future, but twin snakes is good enough for me. I agree MGS1 as a whole is miles better in term of soundtrack, voice acting and all that jazz, but I would never replay mgs1, it’s too out dated, twin snakes is much more replayable even today.
I don't really care if any of you like the game or not. Put it in the collection because the game exists and having it available is better than it just being forgotten to time. The only reasons I can think of as to why it's not there is that they don't know how to get a Gamecube emulator licensed and they don't know how to remove the Gamecube and Nintendo figures from the Gray Fox fight if they emulated it.
Guys, sorry, I didn't realise *insert salty fanboy name here* was against a complete collection of MGS games, sorry again for asking I guess

You mean like how they replaced the Kerotans with Yoshi's when they released MGS3 for 3DS? :steamfacepalm:

MG games have had modes where you fight the monkeys from Ape Escape, a skateboarding mode and a Vulkan Raven toy in it for "reasons". Let's not pretend that the games didn't have goofy crap in them before was my original point. People are acting like Kojima wasn't overseeing all of this but he was involved in nearly all of the games in some capacity.

No.

Thank you, so not being important is no reason to exclude a game from the collection.

The Twin Snakes remake was developed by Silicon Knights and likely the rights are not free for Konami to release.

Yeah, Konami paid Silicon Knights to develop it because they were too busy making MGS3. I'm sure that Konami can pay them again if needed for a re-release.

Silicon Knights dont exist anymore and games like Blood Omen are in IP purgatory because the owners still own the rights.

Youre not missing out anyways. The gamecube version is the inferior version and is basically a MGS2 skin with FPS aiming which breaks the game.

Konami didn't pay Silicon Knights to develop it actually, Nintendo funded the game. That's why Shigeru Miyamoto is one of the game's producers and there's models for Mario and Yoshi in it. :p

Nintendo had nothing to do with the development of TS. It was on their console because Hideo Kojima was friends with Miyamoto. It will have nothing to do with Nintendo giving the green light as Metal Gear NES and Snakes Revenge is part of the collection anyways. It will be down to SK not receiving royalties. SK is now called Apocalypse Studios as its the original owner who has started that company. It will be likely down to negotiations falling through for a cut.

Videogame IP rights is a mire of loopholes and legal nonsense.

Even if Silicon Knights is defunct, the rights to the games they developed, or their stake in those rights, don't just disappear. These rights would have been transferred, sold, or retained by certain entities or individuals. This can include stakeholders, creditors, or other parties that had agreements with Silicon Knights.

Dennis Dyack, who was the president of Silicon Knights, would likely have been involved in decisions regarding the disposition of the company's assets, including intellectual property rights, when the company wound down. However, whether he or another party retains any rights or decision-making ability concerning "The Twin Snakes" depends on the specifics of contracts and agreements.

If there were any lingering rights, obligations, or financial arrangements tied to "The Twin Snakes" (or any other game Silicon Knights worked on), any re-release would likely need to account for these considerations, unless those rights were sold off or transferred entirely. This can be a complicating factor in republishing or remastering older games, especially when multiple parties and platforms are involved.

Silicon Knights had a tumultuous history, including legal disputes with other companies. Any lingering disputes or legal issues could complicate the re-release of games they were involved with. An example of this is the LoK series where they had disputes with Eidos.

But the people exist, unless they have died. Pay them, they'll be more than happy to sign a contract greenlighting a re-release.

Inferior or superior is subjective, some people consider TS superior. Imo this is the actual superior version, TS with the original soundtrack:

While I don't like the new cutscenes, I really don't care that much about them. And no one is forced to use the new gameplay mechanics from MGS2.

In 1998, the Canadian developer was signed by Nintendo to be an exclusive second party developer. Under that deal, Silicon Knights developed only two games: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, the latter of which was overseen by both Konami and Nintendo.

The Twin Snakes was first announced in 2003 by Nintendo of America, confirming that Silicon Knights would be developing under the guidance of Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima -> and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto.<-

[4] Kojima was busy working on Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater at the time, and was unable to commit to the project full-time. He later suggested to both Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata to let Silicon Knights take the helm as he was a fan of their work. The company's CEO Denis Dyack, who had recently completed Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, happened to be at the Nintendo cafeteria in Japan when he was approached by both Miyamoto and Iwata to work on The Twin Snakes, to which he agreed.
