Cheese boss fights(Raven, Liquid, Tank), annoying keycard doors, 4 min ladder chase, 20 mins of backtracking(PSG1, Pal keys), lackluster Metal Gear boss fight, crypitic puzzles like having to look codec frequencies on the game box to progress, all of this was copied & pasted from MG2.
But that's the criticism I'd expect from the kind of player who are so quickly willing to dismiss the most fundamental aspect of a game (the gameplay) for story convenience.
You would be lying to yourself if you said someone became a fan of Metal Gear games today because they played the 1987 version. That would be delusional. I stand by my suggestion that it's ok to skip those games. Your criticism to the suggestion I made is what I'd expect from a snotty gamer trying to convince newcomers to validate your own nostalgia. I'm a old school fan. It's not the way to go. I appreciated the old games after MGS came out not before.
K so we agree then. The msx games are not as easily appreciated today. They are appreciated best after playing a few games into the series. And the summary in MGS is just fine for beginners.
It's a hidden underated gem that deserves to be played.
