What does medicine do?

I’ve been playing the Integral version to see game differences and found a Medicine item. It’s not a health ration or the medication that helps your aiming when using the sniper. Any ideas what this does?

you can get a cold in the torture room (i think you have to hold jonnhy/the guard to get a better chance). That cold make you sneeze and that can alert the guards. So you need the medicine to cure that. (Also, you get a really weird codec call with naomi lol)

Getting a cold is completely optional, if you fast/good enough you will never need it.

I think it has something to do with submitting. Snake has never caught Johnny's cold if I successfully resist Ocelots torture in my playthroughs. I could be wrong.

If you choke hold Johnny you'll get a cold. That's another way to get it.

i killed Johnny (yet no paradox?!?) and took a bit longer on the cold storage Raven fight and didn't get a cold.
(but of course i know what to do in MGS1 so i didn't remain equipmentless in custody for long)

How do I catch the cold? Do i just strangle the guard and drag him around for a little while, do i stand by the door too long while he's sneezing? Is there a confirmed method?

In MGS2, on the tanker chapter, if you are outside in the rain for too long, when you get back inside and start sneaking about you may sneeze every now and again thereby alerting guards to your presence, take the medicine to cure the cold.

Haven't played integral yet though.
