Vent glitch soft lock?

Heyo, long time MGS fan here. I've beat MGS1 countless times but only tried the vent glitch once before a few years ago with no success and tried it again recently because I couldn't remember what stopped me but now I'm in the same spot soft locked again.

Glitch: right before the DARPA chief stuff there's a vent beside the ladder, you crawl in that floor vent facing out, look up in first person then let go and immediately press X (stand up) and you're in the wall and you just walk to the level 6 door and skip to the torture scene.

The problem: all guns not obtained manually before that scene are in red when you try to pick them up the first time. Most guns eventually become usable after some time but my issue is that I'm at the Hind D fight and my Stinger is still red and unusable. Also when guns are in the red like this, the ammo is stuck on 0/0.

This is my second playthrough on Steam and on this file in question I have the bandana, and I assumed even if ammo is at 0 I can still fire the gun with the bandana but that is incorrect.


So my question is either: how do I fix this in my current file, or what is the proper way to use the vent glitch that people use for speedrunning?

You skip the HIND fight by doing the weapon glitch. Check on youtube how it's done.

I've completed the game doing the skip and the weapon glitch so it's not impossible.

You are welcome, I didn't explain how it work because it's pretty complex but if even with youtube you have some trouble doing it I'll try to explain how I did, it doesn't work 100% of the time for me tho but with some tries you should be able to do it, it's not a frame perfect glitch, it took me like +20 tries to achieve it the first time.

yeah it looks super difficult honestly, but it's fine, always fun to learn how to do use glitches in this game
