Audio crackling in MGS1
Heyup, been looking around for a fix for this, and it seems to maybe be an uncommon issue; in MGS1 the audio seems to slow down and crackle at random points. Sometimes the very first sound in the Konami logo is broken, sometimes the gunshots on the menu, invariably a line of dialogue in every single codec call. Any idea how to fix this? The only suggestion I've seen so far is to download the US language pack DLC, but I believe that's the one I already have, so...

If you are playing on steam deck: Don't it cause too much issues.

I think there is a mod for it but couldn't find it because of the kojidrone flooding the forum, search MGS2/3 I think it got a fix for it there but I'm not sure, otherwise your local modding website may have it.

I don't have the issue on my end btw so aside if you play on steam deck there should be a solution.

Nope, not playing on Steam Deck, standard PC with specs well beyond the minimum (or maximum lol)

I found the mods for MGS2 and MGS3 but those don't seem to apply to MGS1

Are you playing the PAL or NTSC version? Whatever you're in, try the other one.

OH, provisionally fixed (don't wanna jinx it...) by limiting the FPS to 60 in the nvidia control panel. Hadn't thought to try it since it's an audio issue and the Nov 1 update implied this step was no longer necessary lol

That's good to hear.

Well the beta patch is on the beta branch so you have to manualy "subscribe" to it, if you intend to play MGS2 & 3 you should also limit the game FPS to 60 FPS.

Had the same issue since day 1, I'll try this, although Steam has always showed the game running at 60fps.

It's still there during the konami logo/intro cutscene but for the few minutes i tried ingame, the sound seemed fine. Will have to try a bit longer later.

The sound crackling was actually my main gripe with this port and basically the reason I stopped playing it for the time being.

I thought the fix Konami provided locked the game to 60 already?

Putting the game into windowed mode fixed that issue for me
!!!!Metal Gear Solid Master Master Collection - The Audio Issue WORKED for me for PS1 games.!!!!
Hi, everybody. Today I've downloaded the 1.30 patch and try to play again Metal Gear PS1 games from the Master Collection. The first time the audio crackling appeared again but, then a new nvidia driver update was released and I install it. Second, I go to Nvidia Panel and set limit of fps on the two options available. Set 60 fps, I run it directly from MGS-Master Collection Desktop Icon. Setup again in full Window Mode and the Submarine Intro was running with perfect audio, intro credits and radio conversations.

I'm on AMD but I guess I'll have to mess with the settings since I've now read of a couple of people saying it works with 60fps/windowed mode. Thanks.

My setup is Core I7 4th Gen 2.8 Ghz. Nvidia 860m 4 Gb, Windows 10 64 bits, and worked for me, as I posted here.

I'm on steam deck (I don't have a PC to game on so it's my only option) anyone know a fix for the audio crackling? It begins right on start up and all through the opening cut scene. I've tried both versions of the game and it's the same for both. Not sure if I should ride it out and it's a temporary problem but don't want to sink time into it if it's going to be an issue throughout.

Apparently complaining on the Internet works. Just booted it up and it's no longer a problem.

Very weird
Sometimes maybe you need to apply again the same setup (60 fps limit, etc.) If the sound crackling appears again.
