For those confused about Analog input
The best way to check how it works other than the crawling animation not snapping into the 8 different direction is to go into first person mode.
When analog input is enabled you'll be able to slightly look down and up while with D-pad it just snaps directly into looking up or down with no half way. I think this is a better way to see how different it is between Analog and D-pad input rather than the crawl movement.

Fortunately this game doesn't have that many instances when first person is used other than with a few weapons so other than that, it should play well for anyone that doesn't require precise movements or sharper turns.

PD: For anyone confused, I know this version doesn't have analog input, I just mean that for anyone who thinks it's not noticeable, it is especially noticeable on first person if you try Analog input on an emulator, the original PS1 and the original PC version

This version of the game does not have analog control. The original does, but not this emulated version
Yes, that's what he said.

i disagree, im playing the GoG version, cuz frankly is a better release, in the extreme difficulty and in the VR missions, not having analog movement really messes you up, it makes it harder to get a drop on the guards and it messes you up in weapon VR missions big time

y ended up modding the GoG release to implement analog movement

That's why I said for anyone that doesn't require precise movements, you would naturally want to have that for the highest difficulty or VR Missions that make of all the skills you can use (and weapons like snipers more than the regular game does)

I wish someone would fix the controls issue. Where the game would randomly stop to detect input and requiring a PC restart. Probably a d8to9 issue.

Playing this game with analog sounds sloppy. But if people want it so bad, couldn't you use steams controller setting to remap the D pad buttons to the analog stick and set it to simulate analog? It might be better than the built in one. Steam let's us do some cool stuff with custom controls if you fiddle enough.

That is an interesting thought but the problem is whether it would work since whatever setting their emulator is picking is what is changing the analog input to D-Pad input.
I'll check tho since it could do smth if were are in luck.

Edit:
Just checked, they are actually using Steam Input for this version but they are working with a set amount of Game Actions which cannot be changed (for now).
Joystick output is nowhere to be seen (since the joystick is made into a directional pad in this configuration) and L3 and R3 seem to do nothing.
The actions are:
- Up
- Down
- Left
- Right
- A Button
- B Button
- X Button
- Y Button
- Start Button
- Select Button
- L1 Button
- L2 Button
- L3 Button
- R1 Button
- R2 Button

The first person in this game acts like it always has. There's a reason why we grew up using the D-Pad for this game

It does not. You should be able look "gradually" up and down in first person using analog stick, but that's not the case with Master Collection, since the game is just emulating D-Pad presses.

That just means you played the original without Analog not that it isn't missing Analog input
You only need to check the comparison between the movement in any video showcasing it and you can notice that it is missing
