If you just want the game itself, get it on GOG. That version is not emulated. Reason Konami didn't use that version was because they weren't responsible for that port, and the ones that were aren't around anymore.
The collection on ps3 was far superior this one has bugs and unpromised features
If you don't have access to the emulator, don't want to set it up, and just want to play MGS1 like it's 1998 again, go for it.
And consider this ^
If you care about graphics, buy GOG version. This version can be played in different languages, and you get extra bonus. Plus it looks like the old version. In my opinion is already worth it because I can play it in other languages.
If you're not the sort to tinker with pc ports or emulators to get them as good as they can be then this is still probably the best option, on pc there are some save corruption issues at the moment for mgs 2 and 3 so if you play those I'd rotate between 5 saves or so just in case. for mgs 1 the game will only save your "saves" if you use the "stance menu" with L1 and R1 (or both bumpers if you use xbox controller. On console this isn't an issue since this happens automatically if you hit the home button, but on PC people can just alt F4 or use the steam overlay.
If you're prepared to tinker the PS1 version and the gog versions can do some pretty cool stuff. but it will require some effort and fiddling from your part.
TLDR: if you just want to download the games and play them with little effort this is probably still the best choice, but there are a few issues to be aware of.
First of all the people complaining are those who played emulators and have continued to play emulators. They see the downgrade but for those of us who don't use emulators and just want the games in one place available at any time, on any device(PC or STEAM Deck/Handheld PC) this is absolutely worth buying.
MGS is great. It runs very well but you'll need to play using the US version(Download the bonus content for the master collection -> Restart STEAM -> Go to DLC for MGS and tick the box for US Language Pack -> Restart STEAM to be safe -> Launch MGS and choose US Language when starting the game). You'll also have to play in Windowed mode to run at capped 60fps without forcing vsync - vsync creates input lag. If you currently run MGS in full screen without vsync on and capping fps in your driver settings the game will run incredibly fast as speed of the game is tied to fps.
MGS2 looks great. I was very surprised it looked as well as it did. It also runs and plays really good. I read stuff about it being 720p and not 1080p... Honestly, I didn't notice and I've been playing it on a 1440p monitor. The images in the lockers look clear enough to me and that's all that matters. x)
Not tried MGS3 but I'm sure if it looks like MGS2 it'll be more than tollerable.
I'm just happy to finally have all three original games in one place for now and forever(While I'm still alive at least - hopefully!) and be able to play these games on the platform for the next twenty years or more(Again, hopefully).
I really hope volume 2 comes out and it includes Twin Snakes(The remake of MGS with updated graphics) and the games I missed that were launched on PS3(Guns of the Patriots and Peace Walker - which I heard weren't great but may as well play for completion's sake!).
Not true, MGS2 and MGS3 actually received bugfixes for the Master Collection.
If you have never played the PS2 versions like me then yes it's a must have.
Still didn' play MGS2 but MGS1 & 3 run without issues and I've completed MGS3 like 3-4 time already without any problems.
The most people who complain are either kojima fans or people who have pirated the games so the emulators have 4K and such, but they saw "Master collection" and believed that it was a REMASTER COLLECTION when it's not, it's just about playing the OG games.
At worse we are on PC so if you need 4K or why not mods like randomizers and such that will happen, thus the PC version is better for this collection.
