Your memory card save file doesn't actually update until the emulator decides to sync it. It only exists in the emulator until then. This isn't the only emulator that handles it this way, but the problem is that people found a way to make the sync automatic.
Konami didn't. You NEED to open the Stance Menu to trigger the syncing process. It's R1 and L1 at the same time. The fact they never addressed this is mindboggling, that's a nasty issue.
But dumb question... Did you quit the game after dying? Because your session should have still had that save game.
What I'm planning to do, it's to use the keyboard. Maybe a macro.
Maybe I'm just getting old.
P.S. I'm playing on the DS5 if that is of any importance
I've used value 50 for the torture scene and the autofire detection did not kick in.

Thank you very much for the advice, I did just that before reading this. Felt slightly guilty for using autofire, but if the game refuses to register my hard work, then this is legit.
