Why Duckstation is NOT better

Not only do we get the Master Book and Screenplay but you would need 6 different isos.

Good luck still finding those or your save 20 years from now, when Steam users will still be able to play with a few clicks.

Update:
I'm updating this because many of you are confused by "6 ISOs" so I'll spell it out:

MGS1 NA is 2 Discs
MGS VR Missions is 1 Disc
MGS VR Special MIssions is 1 Disc
MGS1 Integral is 2 Discs

Now let's do the math together boys and girls, what 2 + 1 + 1 + 2?
Did you get 6? VERY GOOD!

Update 2:
fixed the title because it was poorly worded originally

LMFAO
I like how you chose to be pedantic about ISO vs bin/cue only to look like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ moron saying I don't know what I'm talking about, because I can play at 60Hz with Integral.

And to further expound on YOU not knowing what you're talking about, this collection comes with MGS1, MGS1 Integral, VR Missions, and Special Missions. That's literally 6 different discs, but tell me more about how I don't know what I'm talking about.

Terrible take. My 23 year old MGS Integral CDs are holding up just fine today and I know where to find them. Keeping offline data for 20 years isn't as difficult as you've make it sound.
You're a fool if you think any CD will last 40 years.

And burned discs rot even faster; I've seen many bubble and die.
lol why respond to this instead of other users who have given legitimate counterarguments to your cope? I get being a Metal Gear fanboy, I am too. What I don't understand is coping so hard due to Konami shafting us again that you go out of your way to start a flame war with people who refuse to get shafted. A book is nice, but it's not what anyone is buying this for. They're buying this to play the series on PC, and go figure Konami did the laziest work of all time getting these games running to get some quick money; same as always.

Don't you realize you're just playing an ISO/bin file too? MGS is emulated, by a terrible emulator, sadly.
Yea but they are on Steam's servers where I know I can always download them quickly and easily for the rest of my life; same goes for my saves because never again will I spend days trying to piece together fragments of files because I forgot to back up my MGS2 save before formatting a drive to upgrade.

I'm completely content just having a reliable download and cloud saves, the screenplay and master book are bonuses I wasn't even expecting.

What is the difference between these 4 versions of the MGS1 game?
Sean8102 Oct 24, 2023 @ 11:05am
"need 6 different isos."

What?

MGS HD collection PS3 ISO,
Download RPCS3
And that's it for running MGS 2 and 3 (at 1440p or 4K or whatever res you want, not locked at 1080p) and Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2 are part of that collection.

For MGS 1. The ISO is super easy to find, small, and run it in duckstation with MUCH better graphics (not the blurry junk in this release), proper widescreen, remove the PS1 texture warping etc)

Or buy the ~20 year old og PC port of MGS 1 from GOG for like $10. There is a fan launcher that lets you run it at any res you want, implements proper widescreen support, x-input controller support etc. As for 30 FPS on MGS 1. I don't blame Konami for that. The game simply wasn't programmed to run above 30 FPS. You can force it to run at 60 FPS in a emulator but the game will run at 2x speed.

Like what?
I see no legitimate arguments.
I've literally watched dozens of discs die in my short 37 years on this planet.
I know firsthand how much of a ♥♥♥♥♥ it is to recover deleted files (or try to even).

The only people who would have a legitimate argument to this are those with expendable income to pay a cloud service to hold their ♥♥♥♥, and even those won't out live Steam; and no one's doing that.

And the people using the word "cope" are a joke that should start in school and learn what words mean. In order to cope I'd have to have regret and I'm actually pleasantly surprised at all the unexpected ♥♥♥♥.

So where is the legitimate arguments you speak of?

I updated the first post and spelled it out for you and all the others who want to argue but have no idea wtf you're talking about because you don't even know what this comes with. (even though there's a screenshot right the ♥♥♥♥ there :zaglol:)

I've used free file services to host save files of mine since I could remember. I know many people do the same. It's not even about the format itself, it's the fact that Konami didn't care about enhancing their shoddy emulation of this game despite the fact that it could be done in literal seconds by YOU or me or anyone else with Duckstation. You are defending laziness from a corporation and it's pathetic man. That's why people are saying you're huffing copium. You wouldn't feel the need to make this thread if deep down you didn't feel buyer's remorse of some kind.

I don't get it either. How you would find this quality acceptable for $60 USD. Plus no Twin Snakes (even though IDC for it), no peace walker. The worst way to play MGS 1 literally. A pointless 1080p res cap on all the games. It's just the laziest effort possible.

But if they are happy with what they got for their money, good for them I guess.

Well, then I guess you'll be content playing MGS4 at 720p/30fps too...

As for MGS, they didn't have to change anything in the game itself, an option to change resolution (like the GOG version has) would be good enough. That's something basic for a PC game.

Yea and look what happened to Photobucket. they one day locked everyone's ♥♥♥♥ behind a paywall with no warnings or recourse to get your ♥♥♥♥ unless you pay them

And Mediafire will ABSOLUTLEY turn your ♥♥♥♥ in for DMCA claims; just ask me about Nintendo coming after my Pokemon Rom Hack PATCHES. (Not even the full Rom, literally just patches I made for ROMs)

And Megaupload as well as at least half a dozen others have all been shut down over the years.

If you think any of those are going to outlive Steam you have not been on the internet long enough.
Sean8102 Oct 24, 2023 @ 11:23am
And lets be real. This game dose not have denuvo. If you really think it's worth having you can get it. Not worth the bandwidth IMO.

How can you say that when it doesn't have widescreen support, is limited to 720p with forced bilinear filter and the sound is over compressed, do you know you can make backups with a flash drive dude?

LOL wut??
The original was 1024x768. Why on earth would you assume they would lower the vertical pixel count when they have not done that at all to date?

I would note though, that being able to change resolution would probably be nice for some people. My TV is only 1080p and the game runs at 1080p, so that matters not to me.

You know flash drives die and get lost right?
