no, you can't possibly beat this game in 8 hours unless you've played it before.
I'd say ~12h but I haven't kept track of how long it took me to beat it on the Wii the first time I played it.
LMAO Or just play it at night?
Well, I need to sleep at night or I'll sleep at work and boss kill me. And even if I play at night the fact it's not November but May would still kinda bug me so I will not have the best possible gaming experience
Ok so it's just a you problem. Got it.
I wouldn't say that being unable to play at night just a my problem. It's a common problem because people tend to have job or studies during the day so they need to sleep at night and they can only play during the evening. It's more accurate to say that it's your luck if you can play whenever you want, night or day
Point man is probably correct about the game taking around 12 hours for a first time playthrough.
howlongtobeat.com (a great site for looking up average completion times lists this game as:
-12 hours for a focused story playthrough
-14 hours for someone who also explores and does side quests
-16:30 for a completionist playthrough. As mentioned though, my completionist playthrough was 20 hours.
There's some unlockable content after beating the game. Outfits, a battle mode, new game + and other standard survival horror unlockables.
Personally, while I enjoyed the game, I didn't really have an interest in the extra content.
If you adore the series / survival horror games, go for it. Though I imagine if that were true you wouldn't be asking about playtime here.
If you're more casual, you can wait longer for a better sale. Koei is pretty bad with sales though. Also realize that while this game is the 4th game in the series, it has NO story connections with the other games while 1, 2, 3 & 5 are all tied to one another with returning characters and other strong connections. The only name drop that I recognized is the creator of the Camera Obscura which is dropped in every game.
Cons:
-Really bad pixelation on textures. They look better in terms of art style compared with the original wii release, but the pixel sizes look like they're straight out of the wii.
-I've found this one to be the least scary of the series. On the positive this may make it a great entry to the franchise if you're new, especially combined with it's stand alone story.
-Its the only game in the series that is NOT dubbed. The game is entirely in Japanese and you'll need to read subtitles. Not the worst thing ever, but its annoying because the entire series uses ghosts that ramble on, often giving information about their deaths. They don't subtitle the ghost moans in this game. Its entirely playable, but its disappointing to not get a dub.
-I've also found this to be the easiest in the series. I have not yet completed FF 5, but I've put about 3 hours into it and the combat is a lot trickier in it. Again, makes this one a good starting point if you're new.
Pros:
-As far as survival horror games go, I've found all of the entries to be quite long in comparison to other games in the genre.
-The game does a great job compared with previous entries at directing you, and it has one of the coolest locations in the series... a sanitarium on an island.
-Outside of fan translations on emulators, this is the only official way to play this game. Its frankly awesome to see a port like this. Worth the price for that alone, imho, but you have to decide for yourself.
I don't think $/hour is a good metric, since you have to also take into account the quality of those hours. But I can understand why you'd want to measure things depending on your budget. The question is how much you think you'd want to replay the game. If you enjoy 100%ing games, looking for secrets, replaying to get better rankings, then you can get a lot of time out of this game. Also, this game and most other horror games are good for speedrunning, if that's your thing.
Any 12-15 hr game can be completed in sub 10 if you dash through.
Plus this game has pretty good replay value. Extra difficulties, bonus modes, outfits, ghosts to collect etc.
But almost all classic-style horror games don't go over 10 hours for one run, since anything higher would be tedious. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame are all pretty appropriately long.
