While you may not want to read, you should as much as possible.

For example, on the store page, it lists what audio languages are available. If you would have read that, you wouldn't need to waste time writing posts that aren't needed.

Until now this particular game didn't even have an official English translation. It was Japan-only exclusive since 2008. The series has been on life support for many years, and since most people who'd care about it (not that many) are hardcore weebs who'd play with original audio anyway, it shouldn't be surprising they don't want to pay for English VOs.

The others with English dubs weren't woke were they? I purchased Maiden of Black Water, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Then again this is 2023... so I wouldn't be surprised if they worked something in. Sounds like they're already 'westernizing' this game by censoring the outfits a bit...

EDIT: PS this is the best argument I've seen so far for no English dub.

OP, I don't know if you can be swayed on this, but honestly the Japanese audio with English subs isn't too cumbersome. Some parts can scroll by a bit fast, but most of the time you're reading subtitles is during cutscenes anyway.

My personal argument is that horror works better in one's mother tongue and it's not like the game is super long / has a huge amount of voiced dialogue.

Its really NOT that big of a deal though and I think people should give it a shot and not avoid it over just that. If people want to wait for a sale I understand. I'm having a hard time justifying the full price as it is...

Eh, I get it. Hearing the creepy phone calls in English, for example, might make it scarier if done well. Honestly, though, comparing it to Maiden of Black Water's English dubs, it didn't really do much for me hearing those voices in English compared to Japanese. That's 100% subjective though.

I'm not a big fan of the price, either, but since I love Fatal Frame and wanted to play this without Dolphin messing things up every other update, I decided the price point was worth it. Haha.

I've been trying to go through the series in release order. Really liked the first despite a pretty bad dub. The second actually has, imho, a good dub. I really feel you'd be missing out if it was in Japanese as some of the ghost fights involve some excellent and creepy dialogue that I'm (assuming) would not have been dubbed. I just finished a fight with a priest in 2 and he's constantly referencing the sacrifice and the light.

This series seems really underrated.

The second game is far and away my favorite, with the third being a close second. Yeah, the dubbing in the first is awful though. Haha. "Doooon't be scaaaaaaared...!"

As we are on Steam and on PC it goes without saying that we can mod the games we play. So that is why I was asking. The store page doesn't mention if its available to be modded in.
